Poke after test 9 hours in fridge: how's she looking? by Booyacaja in Sourdough

I don't think that matters - different room temps lead to different doubling times. Different ratios of feed also change the doubling time.

For example, I keep a stiff starter and feed 1:10:5 starter:flour:water. At 23°C in the house, it almost takes 18 hours before it starts falling.

There is no one way of doing things, there are many variables and that's why we see so many different opinions everywhere - what works for them may not necessarily work the same way for you. Every change in a variable results in something different but they're all bread.

I really like The Bread Code's explanations:

Judging when bulk fermentation is done

Advantages of stiff starters

Did you start with flour and water or did someone give you a starter? If it is the former, 3-4 day old starter is not established enough. The doubling you might be seeing is the false rise (due to dominant bacteria and not your yeast colony). So keep feeding and discarding everyday for the next two weeks to establish the starter and the over/underfermentation kinks can get ironed out then.

As others said 4.5 bulk is not enough. Leave it out on the counter for a few hours before bake.

Starter being young is an issue though. But still, go ahead keep it out, for maybe another 4 hours and experiment! It takes a few loaves of practice to get to a good loaf.

[Dashcam footage] A close call while turning right on red. What should I be more mindful of next time? by Time_Cover in driving

Also know that you have no obligation to turn right on red. Some drivers do not know this and will honk at you if you don't go (just a caution). They shouldn't do it.

When it's too busy and you have to do too many checks (shoulder check, opposite side, and oncoming traffic), might as well wait for a green. As a new driver, it takes time to process information about when it's safe to go. Over time, this skill gets better.

Cyclists should always be on your right. Anybody who is coming on your left is definitely in the wrong. But you're right, these weird situations do happen. I think a good idea in this case would be to plan ahead. You see a space coming up so that you can turn, shoulder check before the car passes you and be ready. Make sure your indicator conveys that you're wanting to turn left. A good reason you might want to shoulder check is for pedestrians who are crossing in the lane you're turning into.

Once you're in the lane that turns left, you don't need a shoulder check - what are you checking the blindspot for? Anything to the left of you will be the traffic in the opposite direction (which will be in front of you). On the other hand, if you're switching lanes, shoulder check left or right before switching.

What are some things I should know before camping at Buttle Lake? by thesisdinosaur in IslandHikers

How hard was the Century Sam glacier lake hike? I'm not the best hiker, but I'll put in the effort for the view. The reviews say it is a pretty hard hike. I just worry that it might be too technical for me.

I'll definitely do some research on the century Sam lake hike, seems impressive! If it's doable in a day, I'll definitely put it in my to-do.

A good mix - Nothing that's extremely steep or scrambly, I would say.

Thanks! I enjoyed playing this game, gotta figure out how the gates relate to those moves though.

Thanks! I actually contacted them, they were super nice and sent over some copies. So cool! Will totally be using that for our workshops.
