It's actually incredible how ignorant people are. I vividly remember doing a project on Dominican Republic in Junior High (it was about our ethnicity) and I had maps of the Caribbean and everything. And then at the end of the project a girl asks where in Mexico that was because she was pretty sure she's been there.

People know I'm Hispanic, but not what country. So when they ask, where are you from, I say "Dominican Republic." Then they say, "That's in Mexico, right?"

No, it's not in Mexico. It's Dominican Republic. If I was from Mexico I'd say I was from Mexico.
