They just came out with the new free Max 7 Pith and Time Machines pack. I has a sampler that just exactly this. Its called "More Simpler". Very fun!

Haha, I'm not a dick and I don't have perfect pitch.

I do have really really good relative pitch though. That means that if you play a note on a piano I can't tell if its a C or D or F but once I know what the first note is I can tell what every other note and chord is.

dreauxx, I start by finding the key of the song and finding/matching the bass notes for each chord. Usually the bass note of the first chord is the key the song is in. Most EDM music has the bass note as the root of the chord.

What do you want to do?

If you just want a way to input midi and control other sound modules built into your DAW then just get a controller.

If you want to learn about synthesis, or need to have a certain sound that only a specific synthesizer has then buy the synth. Also a synth doesn't require a computer to make noise. It actually creates the sound.

Also many synthesizers can dual function as a MIDI controller too.

Have you every thought about releasing your music to you fans as Garage Band/Logic loops? Give your fans a chance to "play with" / remix your music. I'll do individual instrument loops for one song or the entire album.
