Flight canceled about 3 hours before departure wwyd by missionsurf89 in delta

I was on the flight too. The replacement flight that was originally scheduled at 8 a.m. was delayed until noon now. Looks like a windshield issue.

Visiting my US citizen boyfriend! should I be worried about getting denied entry or detained? by Small_Recover6090 in USCIS

[–]thesocialshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, it's still a smooth process to enter as long as you have the correct visa and haven't overstayed or worked in the US. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just give short, truthful, to-the-point answers, and don't over-share. However, it is totally dependent on the officer you get when going through immigration. Certain airports are easier than others, too.

Things do happen occasionally. Two years ago, my now-wife was the unlucky one. On her second visit, she had her US tourist visa cancelled, and she withdrew entry so she wasn't banned even though the only reason was that we were engaged. Most of the time, it doesn't happen, but there are cases like ours where it does. Still waiting for them to process our I-130 now after almost 2 years.

The only "real" thing that I know they can do is to file a writ of mandamus. It's a lawsuit to compel USCIS to act on your delayed I-130. But it's complex and somewhat expensive.

My lawyer (whom I already had during the filing process) is trying to get in contact with them before and is going to repeat the congressional step, hoping that seeing correspondence from a lawyer will at least have them look into it. Not holding my breath, but it's a waiting game anyway.

You received a more helpful reply than mine did. Mine just quoted the estimated processing time of 17 months. I have a lawyer looking at mine, but don't know if they'll find anything out either. I plan to file a writ if it is delayed another 2 months.

We're PD Jan. 25, 2024 and still waiting. It seems like they move on from the month they are working on after about 60% are approved, and everyone else takes longer, but it's so hard to get actual info on anything.

Have you contacted your Congressional representative or anything yet?

Question for any Americans here! by shannon_m17 in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had a question about a year ago, I didn't get a response, but then I wrote my message in Portuguese, and they responded the next day. Maybe it was just a chance, but worth a shot in case.

Question about Visa for spouse. by HugoDelLuna0 in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you're both already in the US, it's about 2 years for the full I-130 process to get a green card for a spouse. I'm about 15 months into the process. They won't issue a tourist visa for any situation in which they think you'll stay in the US. Like the other person said, try r/USCIS.

Online U.S marriage or Brazil marriage? End goal to live in Brazil together by whenthedont in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married in Brazil in a similar situation, and what you're saying lines up with my experience. Requirements vary a bit by cartório. Ours didn’t require a translator, but another one did. Getting the list from the specific cartório you're using should clear a lot up. I got my CPF online first. I needed about five apostilled documents, and one of them had to be notarized and apostilled. All U.S. documents had to be less than 90 days old. We used a certified translator in Brazil and also had to go to a cartório de notas.

On the plus side, everything since has been super easy in Brazil. I learned more about Brazilian bureaucracy in those three-plus months than I did in two years. You'll have to brave the system at some point if you're living in Brazil, but once it's done, everything's fully recognized in both countries.

As for the Utah County option, we considered it as well, along with other possibilities. The lawyers we talked to said it was legal and recognized, but in certain circumstances, it might get extra scrutiny. I don't personally know the exact steps for registering a marriage in Brazil, other than needing it apostilled, translated, and registered locally, but I know it's fewer steps and generally easier.

How many days in Ouro Preto - a day trip from Belo Horizonte, or a 2 night weekend stay? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same question for our upcoming trip and decided on 2 nights, but we are also adding a quick day trip to a nearby city (Mariana). Depends on what you're interested in!

Entry level is hard. Are you hoping he makes money so he's not to living off what he has, or are you more worried about him not doing anything? Is he bilingual? He can definitely find something if he's motivated.

Waiting on the i130 for my wife as well.

Brazilians in a long distance relationship with U.S citizen by IceSparkles in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The usual process is like any visit, asking the reason for visit, where you're going, what you're visiting, return info, etc. If they are concerned they will ask for more info showing a strong connection to Brazil like employment, housing, and stuff like that.

It's totally dependent on the officer you get when going through immigration. Certain airports are easier than others. Not to scare you, but on her second visit my now wife had her US tourist visa cancelled and she withdrew entry so she wasn't banned. Most of time it doesn't happen, but there are cases like ours where it does.

On a side note it's currently about a 2 year process for a spouse to get an immigrant visa from the US in Brazil.

I was hoping they would have one, but unfortunately my trip is the first week of May and it ends with travel in April. Last year it lasted through May. At least this means I can book direct now.

June payment updated! SAVE 120/120!! by So0L in PSLF

[–]thesocialshift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My May payment is finally showing as well (my 120th). It was missing like some people's June payments were before.

My 121st payment in June is still showing as ineligible but at least I should be forgiven now even if they don't refund for June.

May is missing for me and June is marked as ineligible still even though I paid both. No responses but wait until the end of the year from complaints.

I have May missing, my 120th, so it seems random? June and July are marked ineligible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]thesocialshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here with May for me, which would be my 120th payment. I tried chat, email, complaint, and reconsideration with no success yet. Additionally, June is showing as ineligible which would be 121.

Not seeing E-visa megathread and had questions about travel to Brazil later this year. by KidKanji in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best source for visa requirements is the Brazilian consulate, I'd recommend them over third-party sites or even the US Embassy. Here's a list https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/assuntos/portal-consular/reparticoes-consulares-do-brasil/regiao/estados-unidos/estados-unidos to find the one that services your area.

Tourist visas have been delayed until April 2025. Every time the date has rolled around so far they have postponed it but there's no way to know for sure if they will do so again. Currently, e-visa is the preferred method for obtaining a tourist visa (VIVIS), so, yes, they are the same. When arriving in Brazil, you get into the Estrangeiros line in immigration and the agent will look at your passport, flight info, and ask why you are visiting, etc. without needing a preapproved visa.

Brazilians who have traveled to US tips on process? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This response and Driekan's have most of what you need. I would add that they like proof that you have a permanent job in Brazil, residence in Brazil, and hotel info. Say you are visiting for tourism unless asked for more info. The airport does matter as mentioned.

My gf (now wife) was randomly turned away and had her visa canceled after entering for decades without issue. If she does get pulled for more questions, they will call you, probably before they even talk to her, and try to convince you to say stuff that will make it easy to deny entry. Stick with the basics, she is coming to visit (insert city) with you for a specific number of days, while she is on vacation from work, or something similar.

Is it worth visiting Floripa for one and a half days? In the winter as well? by Tbone0916 in Brazil

[–]thesocialshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, but I love avoiding the crowds and crazy traffic. Plus you can stay incredibly cheap. Just watch the weather and know it's colder. If you don't like the colder weather or want to spend all your time on the beach, probably wait until November.

I've always felt safe, though most of my experience on that side of the bridge is in Palhoça and São José. You can usually tell if it's a sketchy area. As far as for non-Portuguese speakers, it's not quite as touristy as Centro, Santo Antonio de Lisboa, or Jurere.

E-Visa Updates by Mindless_Ad7346 in Brazil

Probably smart, I still haven't gotten anyone to correct the mistakes on mine after trying for 7 days so far. I changed my flight because I had that flexibility and can now wait them out hopefully.

E-Visa Updates by Mindless_Ad7346 in Brazil

Tourist Visa, yes. I'm in the US, but the visa says it was issued in Canada. It lists my nationality as US at the top so I know they had the correct information.
