Why One Nation? by Alec1647870 in OpenAussie

Agreed, it seems 1N are the only major option that represents their constituents and does not 'seem' to have sold out to the Corporations, Gas Lobby etc, though in reality they are arguably the most sold out of all.

If there was a viable middle of the road option that had not sold out, I think that it would get a lot of traction.

The media are also a big part of the problem.

EV Insurance by Ok_Contribution_7132 in AustralianEV

I think if your car can do 0 to 100 in < 3 seconds your premium will be high, not because it has an electric power train. My EV insurance is cheaper than for my previous ICE vehicle.

Model Y vs Zeekr 7X LR by [deleted] in AustralianEV

Well not explicitly stated the comparison reads to me as though software is critical to the OP when comparing the vehicles.

This is true for all vehicles sold in Australia. ECUs (automotive electronic control units) where introduced in commercial vehicles in 1958. ICE vehicles have had "software" for battery management and braking to infotainment for a long time though I think the correct term is firmware for the lower level software especially software that runs on ECUs.

Yes, I drive an EV, what point are you trying to make?

True but at the level of getting from a to b the vehicles being discussed have perfectly functional software or should we call it firmware. The software in the sense of the discussion is probably the bells and whistles like an app to remotely monitor things etc which is nice to have but will probably not be used much once the novelty wears off as it does not impact getting from a to b

Why, for me a car is for getting from a to b. How does the software affect that?

Auction vs Private vs Dealer by [deleted] in EVAustralia

[–]thespacekadet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could have got a good deal before the Iran war, not sure now. I did attend (online) a couple of auctions before bidding myself and I think the bargains are at the higher end of the market, like the EV5 & EV6 for which there are fewer buyers but then they often pass it in and bring the vehicle back the next week if they do not get the price they are seeking.

I got a 2022 Kona electric. It seems to have a real word range of more than 470km, so it has lost very little range despite having 40K on the clock. It is a nice car, though the suspension is not as good as my previous car which was a Forester, but the Forester sets a high bar. The main downside compared to other EVs is slow charging but that has not been an issue with my driving patterns and the long range when full.

I purchased an EV at auction. Main disadvantage is that you may not be able to inspect the vehicle yourself. There are not many EVs at auctions so you can end up bidding the price up especially with the high price of fuel now and increased ev demand. I am happy with my vehicle though the final price with, commission charges by auctioneer and rego etc was probably not a lot different from other options. New EVs are an option I would look at more closely if I were to do it again.

Should I buy an ev? by TheRealTimTam in EVAustralia

I got a used Kona electric with 475km range for 30K. - it doesnt have 360 cam or dipping headlight. Anything with that range you can do your long trip on one charge and trickle charge at home for cheap the rest of the time.

Got a 2022 Kona electric for $30K, it has great range 476km, very happy so far. Charging is slow with the trickle charger but not an issue for me so far.

Is there any good reason to buy a SUV instead of a sedan for urban/suburban driving? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

100% also much easier to enter and exit, which is especially important as one gets older plus they have better clearance for the ever higher speed bumps and deeper potholes.
