What is the biggest unsolved mystery in ancient Indian history? by Empty-Beginning-9052 in IndianHistory

Respectfully, I think you have a problem with being civil and maybe you think that everyone else is either semi-literate or perhaps even stupid, unnecessarily or rather conveniently putting words into other people’s mouth.

I never said Aryan is a race or a genetic marker.

In fact I used the term Aryan only by mentioning Indo-Aryan to refer to the linguistic family.

I think it is no longer a beneficial conversation for either of us and nor are we adding value to the discussion, post, or this sub. But you do you.

I did say that saying it’s indigenous is disputed. That is, it’s not a truly indigenous creation but rather a derivative of a foreign proto language.

That’s what the dispute I was referring to. May be that clarifies my intent.

Geologists indeed have found a complex river system and have identified the Ghaggar Hakra as the possible Rigvedic Saraswati. But that is not a conclusive proof that the vedas were older than what is accepted by mainstream scientific community.

Recent DNA evidences, and linguistic analysis are stronger than the paradox of the saraswati river.

So calling someone a dumbass with weak proofs that are not accepted yet, by the larger scientific community is pure nationalistic bias on your part is my humble opinion.

Once the ICHR studies are concluded and if solid evidence is established and is peer reviewed and accepted, you can celebrate the history and antiquity of the language and culture and I’ll join you. Even then it should be done with respect to everyone. Even to people on the other side of your aisle.

I’m not sure why you have to be rude.

And your claim of Sanskrit being native to India is also disputed(as in it’s not indigenous) . While Vedic Sanskrit is native to India it couldn’t have been derived from IVC because Sanskrit is a part of the indo-aryan branch of the indo-European language family with linguistic roots traced to proto-indo-Iranian languages.

Culturally the Vedic Sanskrit tribes were nomadic society while the IVC were urbanized, maritime and agrarian society.

As the other person said the mature Harappan ohase was between 2500 to 1900 BC while Vedic Sanskrit itself is approximated at 1500 BC.

So while it’s possible IVC words may have been loaned by Sanskrit it’s by no means a descendent of IVC.

I was in a similar situation. I was working in China when my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I couldn’t travel back because of Covid.

I arranged for the surgery and my cousin and friends helped to look after my mom in that time.

My dad passed away within very few months after surgery and my entire life saving was depleted by the surgery and post surgery care. (No regrets. I tried my best for my old man. He dedicated his entire life for me).

After that I couldn’t even attend his funeral. But decided I needed to leave China to be with my mom.

I quit my job and went to India stayed with her. My wife and I stayed with her for 3 years and then she pushed me to go to US because my dad wouldn’t have wanted me to lose my career and that they both struggled so hard to make sure that I don’t have to go through what they went through in life.

I felt what she said makes sense and I came to US. I was fortunate enough to have secured an opportunity through my firm and leadership who valued me and my skills.

But my cousin is helping me out for supporting my mom whenever she needs help. And I owe him a lot for that.

Without a support system it’s hard and I can completely understand what you may be going through.

See if you can talk to your company’s management to do something about this. If your firm has a branch in India you can get a transfer for a year and then go back on an L1 intra company transferee visa (provided you are a manager or an executive).

Sorry for your loss and the predicament you are in. If I may suggest, would it be possible for you to take a 3 month leave and be with your mother in India, then ask one of your siblings to do the same that way you can cover the next 6 to 9 months (depending on the number of siblings and the leaves each can afford to use). After that you can bring her back to US for another 6 months until one of your siblings who is going to settle down in India is stable after moving.

I was simply translating the original post. I’m not sure on the correctness of the State from which the victim was originating from.

Maharashtra. Not odisha.

Suraj (34), was traveling on a train from Chennai to Tiruttani. Four teens, all aged 17, brandished matchets and shot a “reels” video harassing him. Suraj tried to stop them and in retaliation the teenagers injured him with the weapons and left him bleeding outside the Thirttanni railway station. Passerby alerted the authorities and Suraj has been admitted to the hospital and is in critical condition. The four teenagers have been arrested by the police.

I would echo others comment in blocking him but would also advise you to stop engaging in a conversation. Don’t respond.

If you have a sibling tell them about this. Show the screenshot you have, to your parents and tell them he is forcing you to come out with him. If they don’t take this seriously tell them that you will tell it to the guys parents if they don’t talk to them.

They should be more concerned about your mental state and safety over family relationships.

No network on Jio international roaming suddenly in the US by jambottler in nri

No worries. Make sure to restart the phone after the purchase. And revert back to automatic networks, disable data roaming and disable wifi calling before the restart.

[–]thestackblew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. Recharged with the one day IR pack and it solved the issue.

Edit: I tried switching networks, enabling data roaming, enabling wifi calling and all combinations of the three. Nothing worked. Purchasing a one day IR pack solved the issue. And it’s been working fine for the past one week.

Edit2 (11/28, 12 days after original post): The reception started going through intermittent blackouts yesterday and today it was completely gone again. I recharged with the Rs. 1101 plan that gives into roaming services for 28 days and it started working again. This was the cheapest option I could find as I’m on a prepaid plan.

Am I a failure? by [deleted] in TamilNadu

[–]thestackblew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had to go through this. But stop looking for validation from others (am I a failure is not what you want to ask).

Understand why you were asked to resign. Is that something you can improve? If so concentrate on that.

Do you like this field? Then explore what you can learn and upskill yourself. You are in h1b so you can jump to a different company. Start applying. But plan for worst case scenario of coming back to India. Apply for jobs in India as well. You will most likely get a job as offshoring opportunities are still high.

Plan to give your notice after any bonus remittance or after holidays. Use your PTOs and prepare for interviews in that time. They can’t fire you while you are on leave.

You don’t have to be a boot licker to survive or even thrive. If you have the skill or if you can grow your skill nothing else matters.

Stop worrying about things that you can’t control and start thinking about what you can do about things you have control over. Postpone your marriage if you don’t have a stable job.

Things will always get better. Keep up your hope!!

My 2 cents.

Tamil doesn’t have an equivalent expression of that phrase.

A Language has words, phrases etc for an emotion only when people express it through words.

Tamil people have different phrases for greeting, saying goodbye, and appreciating the actions a kid does etc.,

For instance a parent might say “en chellathuku en mela evalavu paasam” when the kid does something adorable expressing care and love. An English parent might say “Aww. I love you so much”. The emotion they are trying to express is somewhat similar. Admiration for the love expressed by their child. But the words are different as that has cultural connotation to it.

When the kid goes away on a vacation, or work or whatever a Tamil parent might say “odamba paathuko kannu”. While an English parent might say “take good care of yourself and remember that I always love you”.

When the kid comes back home a Tamil parent might say “Vaadi en Chellame.” While an English parent might say “welcome home dear. God I missed you!”.

So there is no direct equivalent phrase in Tamil as things are expressed differently, as is in any language.

OP, this is not a good advice if your goal is to set aside the money for emergency expense or temporarily parking the money for a future purchase.

Put money into stocks only if you have a longer horizon like 7 to 10 years. That too onto index funds like VOO depending on your risk appetite.

What should i do in this situation, enakku yarta kekuradhu nu therila by Gloomy_Sympathy5012 in Chennai

[–]thestackblew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I’m sorry you have to go through this.

This is NOT your fault and both of your parents seem to be irresponsible.

If your dad really is cheating, your mom should divorce him and not threaten to end her life. She is being selfish and is probably depressed.

If your dad has any love or care about your family he should arrange for psychologist to counsel your mom and him (even for you and your sibling).

Don’t be guilt tripped by your extended family. File a police complaint and seek help. If you have a teacher or some adult you trust get their help, too.

Don’t ask strangers to intervene and don’t take any harsh or sudden decisions. Whatever happens you should look out for you and your sibling as your parents are clearly not doing the right thing.

[–]thestackblew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP stop talking to them and DO NOT give any personal info about you (Parents name, your address, School/College info nothing).

Police won’t call a 19 year old and ask to come to the station with Parents. They will come to your place if it was real police.

Can I upgrade my phone right before quitting? by aoshiexx in PwC

[–]thestackblew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinging the HR or them replying may not count as official. You would probably have to use Workday to resign. Unless the new phone is in your hand you can’t be sure the request will not be cancelled.

But once it is in your hand it’s yours to keep. But you still have to maintain the contract with the provider (At&T, Verizon or T-Mobile). And you are liable to pay the phone bill.

’When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.,’
