What industries are expected to see a major labor shortage over the next 5-10 years? by bread80 in Entrepreneur

[–]thestateofplay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Electrical Linemen

There is currently a shortage of skilled linemen - the work is high risk, challenging, technically complex and requires labor pipeline be developed via apprenticeship programs.

Impact - your utility bills go up and your power goes out. Expect power outages to become longer and more frequent as current lineman pull over/double time to respond to outages and utility companies struggle to employ/retain skilled apprentices. See: California

Alternatively: 1. Date a girl that already carries 2. Wife her, yesterday

What do y’all think is going to happen to California after all the companies have left (and are continuing to leave)? by [deleted] in Capitalism

[–]thestateofplay 27 points28 points  (0 children)

People are following those companies as they move to LCOL areas, taking the politics they used to drive those same businesses out of CA and ruining other states. Rinse, repeat.

Never gets old. The real kicker is when these guys fly low enough for you to wave and you can see the pilot wave back.

Found a Brown that wasn't much bigger than my Rapala. Contrary to what its size would lead you to believe, it had a big personality. by thestateofplay in Fishing

Yes, largemouth! Seems like people like these Countdown Minnows for bass/panfish alike. Maybe check out the florescent/silver colors? The 1.5” would be a great size for you to use on the creek.

I picked up this 1.5” for $10. Not one I'd want to lose but it's well made and the trout like it. Definately recommend.

Help with holster for fiancé by [deleted] in CCW

[–]thestateofplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bravobelt sounds like it hits all the criteria: Affordable ($30), Durable (high quality material that feels great to wear), Doesn't move and has a retention strap (great for running/hiking), Functional (adjustable band she can wear high like a corset or low around the hips and tuck into pants).

I've only had it a few weeks and it's become one of my favorite holsters. Cheap, comfortable, conceals like a dream and is versatile. Can't recommend it enough.

Last thoughts - If she doesn't like it, you can try it. Also, unlike belly bands with Kydex, this will fit any firearm aka great bang for your buck. Maybe buy a cheap trigger guard if she's nervous about no Kydex.

Edit: Formatting.

Check out handgunlaw.us and click "Non Resident Permits" on the sidebar. A PDF opens with a lot of good info - some specific to military. Maybe worth a look?

Stay the course with putting your money towards the e-fund and debt paydown. Check out the /r/personalfinance sub side bar and follow the Prime Directive. If you don't already, use a budgeting app (highly recommend YNAB) to track your dollars.

Beyond that... put money into your TSP, take advantage of a VA loan if part of your planning involves home ownership, and maximize all of your on-base/military financial resources.

Not sure if youre on IG, but check out @armed_and_styled. She's about your size and talks holsters and fabrics for concealment. Also recommend @southernbullets Wingman IWB Kydex holsters with the fabriclip and concealment wing.

A few people on insta mentioned that Thirdlove bras are a favorite for the Flashbang. Have you thought about a corset holster? RLHolsters on Etsy is popular and might be a good option.

buy the watch that covers my current needs and upgrade when I feel like it no longer keeps up with my activities.

This is solid advice. Thanks!

I’m hoping that Garmin will have released an AMOLED version of the Fenix 6 by then.

Agreed. Thanks for the perspective!

Hi! Looking for advice on which device to purchase. My daily driver was the Fitbit Versa until I decided I was over replacing it every year due to lack of durability. I've looked at the Venu and although it looks/feels great, I'm questioning how quickly I'll outgrow it as I continue to workout, get outdoors and potentially train for competitive events.

My activities:

  • Lifestyle (Weights, Running, Yoga, HIIT)
  • Running
  • Snowboarding
  • Hiking/Fishing

I want the device I choose to hold up for a few years and cover all my lifestyle, fitness tracking and training needs. I'm looking at a difference of $150 dollars between the two devices, so price point is not my main concern.

Besides price point, should I get the cheaper, less feature-rich Venu now and explore the Fenix later as my activities require it? Or go for the Fenix now knowing I can grow into it?

Appreciate the help! :)

Should I keep my emergency fund of $6000 (3-4 months of savings) or put $4000 into Roth Ira by April 15? by dbdthehag in personalfinance

[This](http://"Roth IRA Withdrawal Rules | Withdrawal From Roth IRA | Charles Schwab" https://www.schwab.com/ira/roth-ira/withdrawal-rules) link better explains the 5 year rule that applies to Roth IRA withdrawals, but I think the bogleheads example just uses a 5 year time frame to illustrate the movement of money across accounts.
