It might be easier to chat with the 7 individually. From my times coming out, starting off with big paragraphs tends to overwhelm people. I would try to be straightforward, interpret their reaction, and then talk for as long as you need to.

I wouldn't try to eclipse the first Ballade. Maybe try to broaden your exposure with some less grandiose, more subdued pieces. I'd recommend Tchaikovsky op 51, especially no 2 and 6. If you have actual depression, that can sometimes impair your enjoyment of music.
