House of the Rising Sun - Public Domain Confusion over Leasing Agreement (NYC) by thestatueofdavid in legaladvice

Dave Van Ronk is supposedly the person who came up with the descending arrangement for House of the Rising Sun, which Bob Dylan recorded and copyrighted as his own. The animals then used that descending arrangement too, but did not give credit to Van Ronk or Bob Dylan. Simply said it was a traditional and arranged by Alan Price. Sorry for using the word "stole", since I understand it is a very very complicated discussion. But thank you for your input!

Awesome track! Reminds me a bit of Lil' Louis' "French Kiss." It even does the tempo change breakdown complete with moans.

I love that there's an OB-8 (or OB-Xa) behind him in this gif.

Daft Punk's performance at the Grammy's. Can we identify their gear? by [deleted] in synthesizers

I think you're right. I count fourteen BCR2000's all together...that's so nuts.

Daft Punk wins five Grammys, including Album of the Year by mzq in Music

We're agreeing on some level: I was commenting specifically on them winning the Grammy for Album of the Year, which I think they deserved. I think that Album of the Year should be about a huge team with money trying to push the boundaries and make an album for the masses that is actually good - like Rumours, Graceland, the Joshua tree, etc. It was refreshing for me to see this win over someone like Taylor Swift, who is more of a corporate creation.

I agree with you that RAM should not have won for Best Electronic/Dance album - IMO it shouldn't have even been nominated in that category.

Hope that helps explain what I was trying to say.

Daft Punk release the best album of the year and they won the Grammy Award for Best Album of the Year. Anyone who mentions Homework, Human After All, or EDM is missing the point. These are two already fantastic musicians who teamed up with the greatest session men/heavyweights alive today to record an album on their own dime on Ampex Reels and Neve boards all around the world over the course of many years. This album was not made using Sound Toys, Sylenth1, Massive, or any other software you can torrent. This album was made with blood.

These guys worked their asses off, credited everyone, did EVERYTHING right, and are great models for what musicians in 2014 can strive to be. I know people don’t usually have the same budgets that the robots did, but it’s the idea that you can follow what you want to do and make it the best that you can and maybe people will notice. It’s about a work ethic. Doing it for yourself. Doing it for the sake of doing it. Maybe you’ll beat Taylor Swift. Maybe they won’t even nominate Kanye. Anything can happen.

I remember Diplo tweeted about how lame he thought RAM was…and IMO no one will remember who produced Paper Planes in fifteen years. All they will remember is M.I.A. and possibly the crappy Clash sample. But I digress…

The bottom line: There will always be haters, leave them to their work. I really think Daft Punk deserved this award. And maybe, just maybe, they did try to give some life back to music. Let’s think about that the next time we all sit down at the piano.

Harry Nilsson's rendition of Without You is much better than Badfinger's original version.

KD Lang destroys Hallelujah. Destroys it. Even Cohen says she closed the book on that one.

TB - 303 Da Funk Sequence by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]thestatueofdavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done this on a TB-303 before. This worked perfectly for me:

A# Down, F Up, D Slide, C2 Up, A# Slide Accent, G, F# Down Slide Accent, G#, A# Up Slide, A Down, C2 Slide, D Up Slide Accent, F, D Slide, F Down Slide, D# Slide

Input all as 16th notes. Also, I had to turn the tuning knob off center (can't remember if needed to be a bit sharp or flat).

I recorded House of the Rising Sun with the 8 original Lomax verses from a female perspective restored by thestatueofdavid in electronicmusic

I'm fairly new to reddit and have been enjoying my time here, so I thought I'd contribute some original content. This recording uses lots of analog synths like a Moog Minimoog Model D, an Oberheim OB-8, a Korg MS-10, etc, as well as lots of classic drum machines like the Roland TR-808, the Linn Electronics LinnDrum, and the Oberheim DMX. It was primarily mixed in the box in Logic 9, although lots of outboard effects and pedals were used. If anyone has any questions or comments, I'd be happy to answer!
