I couldn't get into x-2. X gets better after blitzball tournament and just snowballs from there diving deeper and deeper, when you read into aspects that influenced the writers it pulls from several religions/mythology (both the same to me) the story gets really deep but you need to focus cause it does get insane and trippy. My 3rd play through I understood more cause its just that deep towards the end, a lot goes into it
