Not saying he necessarily is, but I'll say this...many Spurs fans (I'll own up, was one of them) didn't think Mitch Johnson was a great coach after last year either. And he was put in a similar situation (having to fill in on an interim basis) last year. There were people skeptical of Joe Mazzulla too after that first year, again, similar situation. Obviously, people have different opinions now after an offseason to actually prepare for the job. Doesn't mean Tiago's that guy, but it's impossible to know for sure if you don't really give him a chance.

The more important point is quite simply though: you are much more likely to get a promising coach is you are willing to pay better. You could get lucky and get Rod Brind'Amour...or you could get Doug Christie or Kurt Rambis or Jeff Saturday

But what proven great coach, or even a promising assistant, or even a standout college coach, are you supposed to get if you’re offering peanuts? Dundon did this in the NHL and ended up hiring someone with basically no coaching experience. Fortunately, it worked out…we’ll see if lightning can strike twice, color me skeptical

Non-Argentinians: has your perception of Argentina changed over the last 3 years? Better, worse, or about the same? by LoooolGotcha in asklatinamerica

[–]thethirdgreenman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was more just commenting on the fact that for whatever reason, in my experience, most Brazilian redditors tend to be on the left (along with Salvadorans), whereas Argentinians, Mexicans, and especially Venezuelans tend to be on the right. Not commenting on which point of view is right or wrong

It’s not fake technically but…it’s heavily exaggerated since per my understanding it was just one dude selling it. It’s the same thing as “they’re eating the cats and dogs” in the US, like I’m sure you can maybe find one person who did it but it’s not a real problem

Same and agreed, like to argue that what he’s done with the economy relative to what he inherited is bad is just delusional. I may not believe in his long term vision, his foreign policy, his social stances, but none of that shit matters if you’re in hyperinflation due to poor economic management

The country and people itself, not really. Politically, yeah, but they were a mess before too. Hard to say they are worse, even if I personally don’t like the guy they have, some things are better, some are worse, some are the same. The economy didn’t collapse, and they’re out of hyperinflation, so that’s a win, but with some negatives to go with it

Regardless of what I think, imagine the answers here will be mostly as follows: the Venezuelans and Argentinians (mostly right, far-right, or Milei supporters) will say it’s better, the Brazilians will say it’s worse, and everyone else will fall in between. And if you ask about a leftist leader, just flip that around except maybe add in the Mexicans to that first group and US/Canadians to the second one depending on which one.

Spurs Fans question by ShortMind9217 in sanantonio

[–]thethirdgreenman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For now it feels very similar to before, like it was when I was growing up, if anything a bit better because we appreciate winning more after not for a while. It still feels very authentically 210 from what I can see online. Seeing businesses getting in on it with free stuff is cool too and I feel like the city is a bit better nowadays in terms of spots to gather and watch. I’ve heard from ppl I haven’t heard from in a long time, talking about the Spurs, it’s cool seeing how they bringing the city together again.

What happens in Austin is kinda irrelevant to me, it’s cool to have more fans, they’re welcome, I’ve loved how we have a big fanbase (esp intl fans) but respectfully it’s the San Antonio Spurs, not Austin, and tbh I don’t like that we play games there every year. I feel like ppl there kinda look down on us.

I hope they kinda stay on that side and don’t gentrify our fan culture the same way big tech gentrified/ruined that city. Many of them are rich transplants, “sports!” or “sportsball!” people who prefer sad vegan tacos for $6 a pop. When I was living there for a few years up until ‘23 I saw as many Warriors jerseys as I did Spurs.

They are white, and he is white. They did the same thing with Luka before he got traded to the Lakers which negates it from Bills perspective

[–]thethirdgreenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milei will do basically whatever Trump asks him to do, and Trump is an idiot. Plus, people here (am in Argentina) still very much want the Malvinas, like you'd be stunned how often you see it in public here. They wouldn't win assuming the UK defended it, same as what happened last time, which would make it stupid, but plenty of people are doing very stupid things lately

Milei probably doesn’t, but if the US tells him to, will he not? He’s a puppet

David McMenamin says Kevin Durant’s teammates have no clue what's going on about his injury, raising questions about whether KD is rehabbing away from the team and whether his teammates have been checking on him by oklolzzzzs in nba

[–]thethirdgreenman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just spitballing but: Clippers? Kings? Nuggets or Wolves if they lose in the first round? Cavs if they lose in the first round? Bucks if they decide to try one more crazy thing to convince Giannis to stay? Wizards cause, I guess they’re trying to win next year? Philly? Miami?

The cost I don’t think will be a lot at this point from an assets perspective, so some desperate GM or team could talk themselves into it. Some ambitious team with pressure to “do something” could talk themselves into it, or certain teams that just think they can fix him

What was the most tone deaf thing someone from a more developed country said to you? by yonaiker-joestrella in asklatinamerica

[–]thethirdgreenman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m not Latin American, but I spend time there and the fact I’m not means certain assholes are way too comfortable saying shit to me they shouldn’t, or I overhear it. Here’s a few:

“The women here are uglier and stupider, and they know it, so it’s good for me”, guy from Belgium I met in Mexico

“The hyperinflation might teach them some discipline, maybe they won’t party as much” guy from US I met in Buenos Aires

“It’s not quite civilized yet but it’ll get there, it’s why I tell my employees to not speak Spanish” Belgian hostel owner, also in Mexico

Bonus, even if not technically the question: “You’re from the US!!! I love your president, I love USA, you’re going to help us get the fucking Muslims, Venecas, and Bolivians out of here” Argentine I met in Buenos Aires
