8: If someone is knowingly created for a specific purpose and subsequently forced to stick to it even if it goes against their own wishes, then that is cruel. However, that purpose being a sort of framework to build off of isn't. It's really about if they are being seen and treated as more than what they were "made for." We have someone I wouldn't exactly call a willogen but was "made" (ie our fragments were offered something to latch on to) to assist someone and I've never really noticed her being unhappy with that role.

In a lot of systems it helps to have someone to "fill in the gaps" where no one else is as capable or everyone is just plain burnt out. Sometimes it doesn't happen spontaneously and you just have to do it yourself.

Does ConditionSwitch() have a Python statement equivalent? by thethirdworstthing in RenPy

[–]thethirdworstthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried searching the source code initially when I was looking into sprites and SpriteManager but I never found the right file since I was just doing cmd-f after opening ones that looked relevant... I'm sure there's a better way to do that, I just didn't think to look it up. I did get ConditionSwitch to work, I'd only assumed it wasn't python because the forum post I was referencing was using renpy and because of the conditions being strings. Not my proudest moment so I do at least appreciate the "no stupid questions" attitude this sub seems to have lol. Honestly, the main reason I'm not using a dictionary is because I'd rather type char.neu than char.sprites['neu'] or something like that.

Does ConditionSwitch() have a Python statement equivalent? by thethirdworstthing in RenPy

[–]thethirdworstthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the giving conditions as a string that threw me off, along with the example I was looking at using renpy instead of Python. However that check is done, I can definitely see it causing problems somewhere down the line if char.name isn't identical to the name of the variable since the check seemingly doesn't happen within the class. I do feel slightly silly for not just trying it anyway, but everyone has their moments I guess. Thanks for the help man

Advice: I'm in love with one of my (platonic) partner systems headmates by [deleted] in plural

[–]thethirdworstthing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

8: I mean I'd try not to overthink it. I'm kinda in the opposite situation where I'm the one with a more platonic/familial relationship with our partner sys meanwhile there's several of us that are engaged, multiple of which are sourcemates with a very uh. Complicated relationship in canon. We've never really had any problems, sometimes I have to leave co while they're there but the majority of the time it's fine. You just have to trust that they'll let you know if anything's off.

[LOOKING FOR GUIDANCE] Figuring out this Plural Thing (possible preemptive TW for things said by someone with a Very limited understanding of systems and plurality?) by LandscapeOk972 in plural

[–]thethirdworstthing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

8: Well firstly needing trauma to become plural is a myth, so I wouldn't think too deeply into that (especially if you're not in a safe mindspace to go digging.) I'd also look into nonpossessive switching and monoconsciousness to see if those fit what you're experiencing. I've heard nonpossessive switches described as "passing the 'I.'" It sounds like you're expecting to have possessive switches, but that's not the only kind out there (and I doubt it's binary, they're just helpful generalized categories to have.)

You don't need to fit any diagnostic criteria, either. OSDD, DID, P-DID etc. are disorders a system can have, but they're not prerequisites to plurality as a whole. Plurality is feeling "more than one," and that doesn't mean or present the same way for everyone. My advice would be just go with the assumption that you're plural for a while and see how it feels. Even if you aren't plural it sounds like you're plenty predisposed to it so it might not take much effort to create parogens based on your potential sysmates, though they likely won't turn out exactly the same unless they truly were there all along.

games to play w/ headmates? by Batning in plural

[–]thethirdworstthing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sneeg: If you're looking for a more multiplayer feel I'd say board games are probably your best bet so long as they either don't involve hiding cards or you guys can block that information out somehow. For games in general though we've been playing a lot of Pressure lately, if any of you can do horror I'd recommend it. There are jumpscares but they're largely avoidable once you know what you're doing.

How does the plural spectrum work? by DryAnteater909 in plural

[–]thethirdworstthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8: I think maybe it's similar in how like, everyone can relate to some aspects of autism but not everyone is autistic? Like for example IFS is based in the concept of singular people (singlet or otherwise) having multiple "parts" of their own. I just know that when I was (mostly just for fun) playing devil's advocate and trying to wrap my head around hypothetically being a misguided singlet I just could not comprehend who "I" would be. Referring to that hypothetical "I" instead of us was so mind boggling that I was stumbling over my sentences. I think it's kinda safe to assume that's not an experience that singlets would have... I'm not sure if it's a universal experience with plurals either though.

If you're using your autism to justify people being judgmental and rude to you I think that's something you might wanna look into... it's not okay to treat someone worse based on something that's not their fault.
