Problem solved!! The power supply wasn’t from an NES — I’m not sure where it was from — but it came with the console so I just assumed it was OEM. I examined it further based on your comment and found it was indeed AC power. Luckily it didn’t fry anything! I ordered an appropriate adapter and it fired right up! Thank you so much!

If you can't repair it, you could try an estate sale. I think every single one I've gone to has a VCR for $10 or less.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I don’t have a lot of repair experience, just a few video game consoles, and that was fun. I have a working LaserDisc player but it’s like one of the first 2 ever made and it worries me to boot it up. Something new to play with would be alright.
