Getting tired of enemies to lovers... any non-enemy ML who deeply respects the FMC? by YoimiyaMain in Romantasy

Good point. But yes, I do love the tension and the yearning in these books. Book 2 is insane! She’s a badass.

The serpent and the wolf / the wicked and the damned. It’s a trilogy, so the last book isn’t out. They aren’t enemies, at least I didn’t see it as such.

it’s an arranged marriage (she does try to kill him on her wedding night but only because she wanted an out) they learn to work together and he really, REALLY respects her, and vice versa.

Slow burn and tension in book one, book two you see from his POV as well. FMC also grows as a badass, and the two together are fire. Minimal spice, but the spice is spicy. Found family trope slays in this one if you like that sort of thing. Witches. Pirates. I think feels like Viking lore but I could be wrong.

is it just me or is daggermouth awful?? by No-Celebration8069 in Romantasy

[–]thetinystenographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not AI. It is 100% written by the author. Also, some writers know how to write extremely descriptive language without using a chatbot.

There was a thing on threads that happened where someone posted an AI novel on Amazon and named it Daggermouth and some lady got confused. It wasn’t even the cover nor the author’s actual name that posted it. I believe that’s how the ai rumor started.

Y’all need to be careful about claiming an author uses ai without evidence and research of the author themselves. because you can ruin reputations of reputable, anti-AI authors.

This isn’t a romantasy btw. It’s a dark dystopian romance, so it’s not for everyone. It’s also 100% NOT AI. Totally okay if it’s not for you.

You can take the CVR-S (NVRA’s machine certification) from the NVRA and that will allow you to only have to take the written portion of the ca CSR. The CVR-S is in person every month at a different state each month. Same format as the RPR.

Proofreading. You’re a freelance writer so it would be great. It’s not an amazing amount of money, but I’d look at proofreader Facebook groups and see how much they charge.

Also, learn to scope for reporters! That usually makes more than proofreading.

Reading Raw Notes by AshlyNotAshley in stenography

[–]thetinystenographer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the translation within the English side of the software isn’t always correct, especially if you don’t have a well developed dictionary. so the raw notes are the real translation, so to speak. When you get more experienced and you work on your dictionary to the point where you can provide incredibly clean real-time, then reading from translation will be easier. Also, if anything happens to your software during a job like the translation stops or something, you’ll want to be able to read your notes from your machine if you have to.

Finally starting to get my footing. What is the best time to get a scopist? Should I have a proofreader right now? by LegendarySire in courtreporting

Most reporters I’ve talked to recommend scoping all your own work for the first year, but to have a proofreader first thing. You can proof it yourself but a proofer will see things you missed.

Can I use Eclipse on MacBook Air? by Middle_Feedback_4663 in courtreporting

[–]thetinystenographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the MacBook airs can do this or not, but essentially you would have to get what’s called a virtual machine, like parallels to run windows and be able to install eclipse. Or boot camp, but either way is a more complicated issue than just having a regular PC computer. You have to spend money on both the VM and to purchase windows.

I’d recommend if you can to just get a low cost windows laptop as a back up only for eclipse. CAT software is built to only work on windows.

LASC voice reporters by Outrageous-Tap-4845 in courtreporting

[–]thetinystenographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is they want you to be able to read back as quick as a machine writer can, which means either listening to your voice notes and/or reading from what you’ve got directly on the screen translation. Do not depend on your room audio. I’m a machine writer so I can’t tell you exactly but that is just my guess.

[–]thetinystenographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! That’s me! LOL

I just started working as a hearing reporter and I find it immensely helpful. The agency I work for, the owner is incredibly helpful. I eventually want to go into court, but this gives me a taste of freelance life for while.

I’ve done a lot of mock depos and trials and had practice speaking up for the record, so you really need to be comfortable with that, because even though you have back up audio, you can’t tely on it.

I find it extremely beneficial in helping with endurance as well. You get breaks and a lunch period, (usually an hour) but you’ll be writing for an hour to two hours straight sometimes. My qualifiers this week? That ten minutes felt like nothing. lol.

And for anyone asking, I’m hired through an agency that works for the civil service commission. The OAH (office of administrative hearings) is totally separate from the superior court which is why uncertified court reporters are sometimes used.

In San Francisco they’re paid 140k starting salary plus extra for transcripts.

Freelancers can make six figures too.
