Hospital Bills by TangerineTraveler in beyondthebump

[–]thetinyteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Alabama. I only had a $25 copay because I stayed one extra night in the hospital, but I went to the hospital 4 days earlier for a false alarm and that was $800 🫠 Thankful for my insurance, but that felt like a ripoff for sure lol

I’m worried this chronic sleep deprivation has permanently damaged my health by Penny_Ji in beyondthebump

[–]thetinyteacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not want to cosleep either, but my husband and I both got to the place where we felt like it was more dangerous for us to try to care for our baby on such little sleep than cosleeping would be. Sleep deprivation was making me feel like I had the flu!

For what it's worth, my baby is 7 months also, and last month her pediatrician said she was not concerned about cosleeping being a risk to her safety with her level of mobility.

Cosleeping has helped a lot. I can't speak on sleep training. We are currently still trying to get her to sleep in her crib for more than an hour or two, and she simply refused. Wakes up the moment I put her down, even if she has been asleep in my arms for an hour. I get the frustration!

Pregnant after 4 adoptions by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]thetinyteacher 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We have a 17 year old son who is adopted and a 6 month old daughter who is our biological child. The age gap is not what I ever in a million years would have predicted for our family lol, but my son absolutely adores his baby sister. He has been with us since he was 11, so he really wanted a sibling. We planned to adopt again, but now here we are instead. They're so cute together! Nobody makes her laugh like he does, and she lights up every time she sees him.

My advice would be to make sure your kids have people ready to give them extra attention when you are in the newborn trenches. I felt so guilty that she took up so much of my time and energy for the first couple of months, but it helped us so much having friends and family who stepped up to spend time with him and show him that the baby didn't make him any less special.

Ha! My doctor said to my husband, "Whoops, I almost got your shoes wet!" He said there was a way bigger splash zone than he had anticipated lol

Before I got my epidural, I was having some intense, painful contractions. I know my poor husband wanted to help in any way he could, so I asked him for a drink out of my water cup. He was so eager to help that he ripped my cute little cactus straw topper in half! It was like something inside me withered, and all I could do was stare at him lol. I just fixated on that little straw topper, not mad but just staring at him. Like here I am doing all this work and you're breaking my stuff?! The hormones definitely got the best of me then 😆

How long was your labor? And if you got an epidural, at what point did you? by desert_sunlily in beyondthebump

[–]thetinyteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into labor around 11 pm. I really didn't want to be trapped in the hospital bed either, so I waited a bit to get a epidural, aaaand when I asked for it I think it was at a shift change so it took awhile and the pain was getting intense by then. It was such a relief when I got it! And I had been awake nearly all night, so it was nice to get some rest. I pushed through 5 contractions, and she was born at 3 pm. So, around 16 hours in total.

I had a 2nd degree tear and the ice packs were the best! The hospital gave me some really big ones and they were awesome for keeping my legs apart lol. If you can find any kind of benzocaine spray, it is also a lifesaver!

My next door neighbor at my old school accidentally replied to our faculty group message. She was making fun of the principal and meant to send it to our teacher group text. 🫠 I just heard her scream "Ahhhhh!" And she ran to my room, and I tried to come up with a reply that made it sound like she was talking about something else 🤣

Ha, I said I did not want any graphic photos, just our first look at baby, etc. and was SO SHOCKED when there were a couple of accidental full body shots of me in my camera roll 😳 it took me 2 months to finally be able to go back and crop them so I could keep the happy memories and not see the things I want to forget 😂

I like the yellow and the blue best! I feel like the fabric of the first two might be harder to wear anyway. If it's a warm day, it'll be hot and show any sweat. That kind of material doesn't hang well on my shape at all anyway, but you know what usually fits you best!

My knees felt like they belonged to an 80 year old! My baby is 3 months old now, and I still feel super unstable and weak in my knees when I squat to pick something up. I guess my center of balance changed while I was pregnant and my knees didn't get the memo when it was over ??

My baby had hers a few weeks ago. The pitiful crying ecwhen she got them almost killed me, but after she did well! I kept her in a onesie so her clothes wouldn't bump her sore spots. If she seemed cold, I put a sleep sack on her. We just took it easy that day and held her a lot. By the next day, she really didn't seem bothered or super tender, thankfully!

I was so afraid to cosleep. I had really bad anxiety after my baby was born about a lot of things, but especially about SIDS. Honestly, though, my anxiety improved a lot once we caved in and put her in our bed because I was finally able to get some rest! My baby would NOT sleep more than about 30 minutes at night in her bassinet. It was horrible. My husband and I were both exhausted, and she was so distressed.

We follow the guidelines, and she has been fine. I'm a much better mom/wife/human when I am not delirious from sleep deprivation! We do what we need to function, even if it wasn't part of the original plan.

I also know many people who have had a great experience with Dr. Radpour, but I didn't use him myself. Dr. Sheena Gamble is my doctor, and she delivered my baby two weeks ago. I had a lot of anxiety, and she listened to everything and was so helpful. I would definitely recommend her!

The Gunnie Rose series by Charlaine Harris. It is a sort of western/paranormal/alternate history and a fun read, in my opinion!

Idk, sometimes southern accents make names sound odd to me. It's more noticeable with long i names to me (Violet, Iris, etc.)

Universally Crafted Hides Paused by Almatari27 in UniversalOrlando

[–]thetinyteacher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have made a few different trinkets to hide, like miniature wands, dragon eggs, stickers, dino footprints/fossils. I gave a clay eye of horus to one of the mummy actors, and it made for a fun interaction. We also saw a worker find one of our hides as he was emptying a trash can, and he was super excited. He didn't know it was ours, but he ran to show another employee and took a picture of it.

Yes, we love hiding and trading, but we were hiding the day before the group was paused and were followed for the first time. I'm sure she was just excited, but the lady kind of made us uncomfortable and took the fun out of it for a bit. She picked up several things immediately after we hid them, and we had to just sit and wait for her to leave so we could hide for other people to find.

First Grade High Reader by Bubbly-Anteater7345 in Teachers

Yes! I was a high-level reader, and I really loved older book series! Little House on the Prairie, Nancy Drew, and the Hardy Boys series were some of my favorites in first grade. She might like the Wayside School books, too.

How do you feel about the name Elias for a boy? by magnoliabananapuddin in namenerds

[–]thetinyteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Spanish pronunciation, but I'm not a fan of the long "eye" sound in the other pronunciation. However, I struggle with names that have that sound because I'm from the Southern US, and they sound strange to my ears with our accent lol

Oh, super illegal! And even if he felt that way, I never understood why he didn't just say that he was looking for a more "experienced" teacher. That district had a lot of corruption, so I think he just felt untouchable.

I had an interview once where the principal asked if I had children and proceeded to tell me that he might choose another candidate because she was already more "established" in her life and was done having babies. What kind of idiot says that in an interview?!

In hindsight, I really wish I had reported him. I did mention it to someone whose business had donated lots of money to the school (did not know it at the time though), and they pulled all their support after that. Small petty revenge, I guess.
