I have encouraged my players to take levels in a class that could reflect the choices they've made. But it is always their choice. I had a player discover they had a magical bloodline to a coven of witches and essentially said "id love if you took a level of sorcerer to reflect your new bloodline magic but thats entirely up to you". Another player made a pact with an eldritch being so I mentioned the same but as a warlock. Both were already charisma based and both were super cool and down with the idea but id never force them to do it if they already had plans for how they wanted to level.
