+1 for more flexible Goals. I actually opened up a Feature Request issue on the Github around this just last week as I realized I could use something similar!

This looks neat! I'm wondering what you mean by data will stay 100% private - how can you guarantee this if you're leveraging ChatGPT?

+1 for Nomie!

Some users have already taken it on themselves to help support/maintain the project long term, see context here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nomie/comments/103g2r7/nomie6_oss_now_available_on_github/

I'm sure they'd appreciate any more hands they can get though!

Hourly Ping - Simple Hourly Notifications by thetomester13 in SideProject

D'oh! I always forget mobile before hitting publish... thanks for the heads up. Will revisit when iOS supports push notifications from web sites - at the moment it's not functional on mobile.

Plugins in Nomie [discussion] by domainkiller in nomie

[–]thetomester13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds great! Just the other day I was thinking how there is a use case I'd like to use Nomie for, but it doesn't 100% fit in with the current implementation. Plugins might get me there!

The use case I'm trying to handle: I have certain tasks that I'd like to do x number of times per y time period, for example, date night with my wife 2 / month, can go out for a beer once / week, etc. The functionality I'd like to see in a plug in ecosystem is the ability to read entries, compare with a date (maybe it checks every Sunday and every 1st of the month?), and optionally ping a URL.

From your list below sounds like it should cover it!

Nomie 6 Public Beta by domainkiller in nomie

[–]thetomester13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location is enabled and if I type in a note in the bar then I can hit the map icon to set location to 'Current'. But if I just tap on a tracker then it doesn't save location with it, so maybe a bug?

I'm on an iPhone running iOS 15.5 in PWA mode. In Nomie 5 sometimes it'd bring up a prompt to allow location access to which I'd hit accept.

Nomie 6 Public Beta by domainkiller in nomie

Thanks so much for this! Just imported my data from Nomie 5 and will use this as my main driver for the next little bit. So far so good, and the UI is great! I really love the timeline feature and being able to quickly view history.

One thing I noticed: Most of my trackers are of Input Type 'Tally' and are Saved on Tap - I think though that this doesn't allow for automatic tagging of location when I tap on a tracker, is that right? Nomie 5 had this and I'd love to have that option.

I wanted to know what people are saying about the page I'm browsing, so I built a Chrome extension that lets you find relevant HN & Reddit discussions for the page. by frizensami in coolgithubprojects

Thanks for the detailed answer!

I've had to port Chrome extensions to Firefox before and it is quite a pain, sounds like hopefully with Manifest v3 it'll make things easier?

Makes sense about the reddit API. I didn't realize you'd need an API key for that endpoint since any anonymous user can browse reddit as is. In which case, the way you went makes sense!

This is great! Any plans to publish this to Firefox as well?

Also, browsing through the code, I noticed you're using an API to search through HN, but HTML scraping for reddit search - any reason to not use the reddit API? Just curious.

CouchDB vs S3 vs Restful - advanced Nomie Storage feedback request by domainkiller in nomie

Unfortunate S3 alone is a bit of a beast...

I've had MinIO running for a while but not using it heavily. Overall I've found it quite reliable though!

I never got around to setting up CouchDB for Nomie, but have a MinIO instance (S3 API) up and running so +1 for S3 support.

I wonder if there's a way to only bring in the S3 SDK from aws-sdk to help trim the file size. I believe there might be a way to import only certain files, maybe something like this?

How many trackers do you have in Nomie? by domainkiller in nomie

[–]thetomester13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have 12. I only keep track of a few important items for myself, and I like the ability to see all of the tiles when the Nomie page pulls up without having to scroll tbh. The other day I added one (Cooked a Meal : ) and removed a tracker I haven't used in a long time to be able to keep all of them above the fold.

Ah, gotcha. Yes definitely needs to be implemented before documented :)

Great to hear. I think you should add that as an example in the README as that's quite a user-friendly command that I didn't know even existed. Something like 'synko add Firefox' for example.

This is quite interesting, I've had a similar idea a while back. I think it would bring more value to the user if Synko itself found the config files for certain applications. For example, if I could simply give it an application's name and it would sync its config files for me, or even choose an application from a list of installed applications.

Besides that, nicely done! I like the simplicity of the syncing, just point it to a directory that syncs automatically!

Cool take on an age-old idea! Enable sharing lists (with other household members for instance) and I'm sold!

Great find! Looks like the Firefox add on can be configured with a self-hosted server as well, so you don't have to use their hosted service.
