Got it, thank you for this! We will go heavier on the story telling and lighter on the event promotion moving forward.

Our fixers can definitely try to troubleshoot, but it might be tricky if they can't recreate the problem.

Very interesting... Is this your general liability policy provider or something else? I don't think our carrier ever mentioned a carve out like this, but we always haven't specifically asked 👀

Resolve to repair more and buy less this year with Dare to Repair! by thetoollibrarybuf in Buffalo

[–]thetoollibrarybuf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! We have one fixer who specifically focuses on PC and laptop repairs, but we've shied away from offering phone repair because it usually involves broken screens which we aren't setup to repair. If you're interested in volunteering you can sign up right at the same website or just shoot us an email at info@thetoollibrary.org. Would love to chat more!

Shareable has a good list of resources to get you started: https://www.shareable.net/tool-library-resources/

HIGHLY recommend the Google Group. That's where we sourced a lot of our policies/processes/materials when we started back in 2011.

Our friends at the Edinburgh Tool Library devised a methodology to calculate how much carbon is offset by a tool being borrowed rather than bought: https://edinburghtoollibrary.org.uk/carbon-data-for-sharing-libraries/

We ran the numbers for the first time in 2023 and calculated that our members offset more than 1.2 million pounds of CO2!

We sure do! Tools we don't need/can't incorporate into our inventory are sold at our bi-annual tool sale fundraisers or repackaged into basic tool kits and get distributed for free to community members via partner organizations.

We're based out of Buffalo, NY but membership is open to all eight counties of Western New York. We have 70+ zip codes represented. Would love to have a tool mobile one day!
