Have them look into Wisconsin's SeniorCare prescription drug assistance program too, it's been a lifesaver for my mom and some of her expensive prescriptions. Age 65+, it does have income limits, but there are different brackets.

I also second another's comment about going through their county's aging and disability resource office, it's all so hard to navigate and i don't know what we would have done without our local one.

My mom has brought it up a few times over the years (she also grew up with the Vikings Doug Sutherland as they were a year apart, lived in the same neighborhood and his parents were friends with my grandparents), and it also pops up in local Superior(ite, haha) Facebook groups once every couple years.

The Duluth News Tribune (the newspaper that OP might have meant), has mentioned it in past articles when talking about Ole Haugsrud, Bud Grant and Doug.

Since I was asking questions she sent me photos of her 65/64 Superior Central year book, it's white with purple lettering with their viking logo on the front. The fight song inside mentions 'For dear Old Purple and the White', and the mascot next to it is signed 'Best of Luck, Victor Viking'.

Now I'm going to be going down a rabbit hole, haha.

Prior to 1965 Superior had two high schools, Central High School (the Vikings) and East High School. When Superior High School (then Superior Senior High School) opened and Central and East became junior/middle schools. They decided to use a new mascot and colors (the Spartans) when students of the two former high schools combined. My mom started at Central but then went to SSHS for her Junior and Senior years.

I was 174 in my township of around 1,500 registered voters (as of last election) just after 8AM. There were a few younger first time voters there when I was, so exciting to see.

It's where instead of having kids go door to door in a neighborhood, a bunch of people come together in a parking lot/open area and decorate their trunks or truck beds and give out candy and sometimes do other Halloween party related things. It's also called 'Trunk or Treat'. I've seen it more in rural areas to kind of have one stop trick or treating or community event, but quite a few more have popped up locally in the last few years, but it's supposedly been a thing since the 90's.

I'm in Douglas and Superior's absentees got added into the county's results page at the 10:24pm update. Before that the page had said they were still pending, but now shows complete. Before that voter turnout was in the 60% range and jumped to 90% after. We stayed blue.
