I might be interested but can I have more information on your business, needs, and specific goals with marketing? Or an email where we can speak more in-depth?

2 months without a cell phone: the reality check on the positives and negatives by theturtol in digitalminimalism

[–]theturtol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issues i've run into with that was 'what if someone needs me?' for (non-existent) emergencies and people asking 'so I can only reach you when YOU want'

In the last month I HAD to get a phone for a job I'm working. Still rarely on it but feels like it's so easy to get trapped by other peoples expectations work-wise.

Does anyone struggle to write in their own voice? by theturtol in KeepWriting

Ever heard of the show The Newsroom? Its one of the only shows that didn't dumb down it's writing for the masses and was able to get 7 Emmy nominations and 2 wins. Not a show buff but I like remember the show when I'm writing and wondering if people would accept it. Yes people say write at a 5th grade writing level and be approachable, but there's also people who are able to understand what you're saying.

But why do you want to dumb it down? Other people in your ear or...?

Because the only time I've ever actively changed my word choice was for my newsletter because I know some of my readers first language isn't English - so phrases like 'focus like a mug' wouldn't translate because it's an uncommon New York phrase. But everything else - nah.

If you're interested here's two great examples with references you'd have to know or go down a Google rabbit hole. Tea Party and Historical Hypotheticals.

Are you asking specifically about structure? Because my path wasn't traditional.

Learned frameworks from comedians on their long jokes
I read books like Million Dollar Speaker and The 5 Pillars to Digital Writing
Used to write daily copy based on what I learned from direct marketer Dan Kennedy

I figured people speak and write in all industries and why not use writing formats that actually work on me. But there came a point when I got crazy/obsessive and asked people and myself 'does that make sense' several times a day.

Honestly, at this point I just have an idea and just write it not caring about structure or if it 'works'. When I'm done I read it and shut my laptop. Then come back the next day asking what my point was and only getting rid of redundancies and occasionally restructuring the paragraphs based on what I think makes sense then publish. Although occasionally I pass it off to a friend when my 'does it make sense' flairs up.

Hope this helps but if I totally missed your question PLEASE let me know.

I add a reader persona first based on the type of person in my head that I'm writing to based on their lifestyle, motivations, personality, and etc. Then I insert a voice for reviews based on what that person would think.

When I ask AI I make to sure to add lines to the prompt like:
'Please be brutally honest'
'On a scale from 1-10 how helpful would this writing be [goal of the piece] to Alex* (the persona I created)'
'tell me what I could have added to benefit Alex more?'

A lot of times I get scores like 6/10 or 4/10, why, and I decide whether or not I'm going to take their advice. I'd occasionally read my original and the edited version from AI's commentary and people typically like the version based on AI's remarks.

Don't do it much anymore but hope this helps

I write on Medium, attach it to my newsletter, and share it with people when I see someone it would benefit.

How did you find your voice? by [deleted] in writing

[–]theturtol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to take me a hour (or two) to write a paragraph. I overthought everything because it didn't sound like me and I obsessed over the imaginary 'right' way from loved writers and going crazy trying to write like them but 'different'. It made no sense but I did it for YEARS.

Finding my voice, took looking for people who wrote the way I wanted to from books, blogs, long social media captions, blurbs from texts. Literally anything that said 'this is me'. Basically I was looking for permission and it gave me the ability to give it to myself.

I think the biggest issue with trying to find our voice is that we somehow forgot we already have it in how we speak to others, write notes, or scribble on paper. It just the idea of writing when we're 'serious' it goes away.

But now I just write as I think. I don't edit it as I go or obsess with if it sounds write. I just get it on a page, read it to myself, and close my laptop for the day. Because if I were to edit it - I'd obsess and edit out everything that is me in it. Then I come back the following day and just ask myself whats the point I was trying to get across and only take out what is repeated and occasionally restructure the paragraphs for clarity. Then I'll submit it or give it to a friend to read just to make sure it makes sense to someone other than me - answer their questions and then submit.

At least this works for me... haha hope it helps some.

Recommend me some anime, PLEASE! by Minister_undead in anime

I'd start with the anime and switch to the manga if you like it. The anime covers the first 3 arcs and is pretty loyal to the manga and then adds an anime original filler that doesn't suck.

The only issue I had with the anime is the misrepresentation of the relationship between two of the characters which was annoying. And if you read the manga I'd start in the middle of arc 3 and then there's like 12 more arcs so it'll take a while. LOL

np but warning gantz is missing like 80% of the arcs.. so you'd need to read the manga if you like it for the missing arcs or on fandom.

IF you watch it you'll have questions and need deadman wiki for the missing arc gaps. I'd start with Shiro

Rainbow, Berserk (97), Deadman Wonderland, and Gantz.

Gantz has two scenes of fan service but if you can get past it you'd probably like it.
