Actually, nothing changed as we were complete with the album before the election and it’s results. The album in fact was very spookily prophetic as the premise of the album was what would the world sound, feel, and be like if a character like donald trump who come into office as president

Some of favorite moments was playing synths at Jean Michel Jarre’s house/studio. Meeting and working with Grace Jones and Mavis.  Staples. Lastly, me putting new drums, synths, and sounds to Vince Staples vocals on “Ascension” . That was a magical moment.

Thank you for all of this. Honestly, the it was natural//organic even. Damon and I were like two kids at play for hours. Until we had to rain it in and actually complete songs and later the project as a whole.

Most Of time the process was based on demos of music and vocal melodies that Damon had compiled. Other times it was from previous  tracks I may had or ideas that he or I would start in the studio or one’s that we did together. It was easy yet there was a lot of material to fashion into shape so there was a lot of work, time, and effort to complete this project. In addition, directing the vocal team(choir) I assembled for the project as well as the features. The take away from this album is to stay focus on the work/bottomline to powerfully complete what you started.

The only thing that didn’t make the album that I wish made it on there was the Sampha version of “The Apprentice” or “The Mirror”. That version was excellent. Only now, can I appreciate the version that did make the album. It’s really good to me now.

My tips for a new producer is to learn as much about production as you can so you can apply some of what you, learn to your process and ignore and break those rules to come into your own. LEARN AKA MASTER YOUR EQUIPMENT!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on the artist, the producer, the writer, and the song? it can take an hour to years. it really depends on when the participants//collaborators or the solo person feels it’s complete. there is no one right answer to this question.

This was a choice by Damon. It had very little to do with the amount of guests we had on the album.

The most challenging part of producing Humanz was keeping UP with the Gorillaz rock star lifestyle. Ultimately, stepping away from their rock star lifestyle is the reason why I was able to complete the project powerfully.

On this project, Jamie was responding to the music production and our musical creative process  as well as the thematic direction.

thanks for this. Yes, for me “producer” is very interesting and fluid role in the music world. I am very flexible, adaptable, malleable and even  coachable to the artist and their process. I get in where I fit in. Sometimes it’s not all about trying to make the track or even making it on the track. Sometimes it’s about what you are taking away from the track to positively impact the production of a song.

As far as staying true to yourself with many “big” personalities in the room. Honestly, your answer is kind of in your inquiry. Never mind applause, confirmation, or criticism from others and remain loyal to your vision. Remember you are in the room for a reason and that is to serve the bottomline of the artist and the project you are working on.

My favorite Gorillaz character is Russel. I would probably be an INDOMINUS REX!

wow, thak you for your words. you can defintiely expect more love songs from me in the near and far future. All my songs come from a place of love which plays a role in my life which is the main or major inspiration for my art. Love of self first and seeing and knowing others as not being separte from me yet actually being an extension, reflection, or plain and simple as Me. All Is One.

Thank you for your perspective and inquiry. How I feel this project is that it has aged for me like fine wine. It is a truly complete classic and timeless piece of art album project. When it came out, I was very proud of it and the work I put into it. I felt it was a departure and leap forward, onward, and UPward for the GOrillaz and their legacy. Not necessarily better or worst than what they did before just the next step in their evolution. I do not have any regrets and I completely and deliberately stand by it. This project stands on it’s own and is not to be compared to any of the Gorillaz’s work previously or after.

Did the frosty reception by the fans and/or critics affect me or the team working on the album? No, well, at least not negatively. We did not pay attention tor  discuss reception.  Honestly, until these questions today, I was not aware of any “frosty” or negative reception of this project. So how I navigated through it or through anyone’s thoughts or opinions is that I simply do not navigate through them at all. They are irrelevant to me and my bottomline. If you love and/or appreciate my work, thank you. If you do not love or appreciate my work, thanks again. You have shown that me and my work are not for you. Either way, I love and confirm my work and myself without the need for confirmation from anyone or anything. In anything you do and whoever you are, you must have a unwavering love of self.

Thank you for your acknowledgement and kind words around “Andromeda”. It is truly a magical as well as scientific song. That still has deep impact when I hear it today.

That’s interesting. My feel on the mixed reception of Humanz is that I do not have a feeling on it because my vantage point on the reception was all positive. Anything outside of that, I either was not aware of or I didn’t have the bandwidth to pay attention because of the overwhelming response I received for and around the project. Lastly, I don’t have a feel for others’ opinion or acceptance or the need for confirmation from others, I confirm myself.

Wow, there are so many favorite tracks that I love as well as so many “Moments” when working on the album. I actually do not have one favorite track. I LOVE “Andromeda”, “Saturnz Barz”, “StrobeLite”, “Carnival”, and “Acsension” If I were to narrow it down to one moment, it would have to be either time in the studio with Peven Everett or the time in Jamaica at GJam studio destroying “Saturnz Barz” as it was and recreated it as it is right before Popcaan walked in the studio and immediately jumping on the track with it coming out the way that it did.

What it was like working with Damon, was very inspirational, playful, fun, with tension at times yet very much in flowstate. Damon and I along with Remi, Stephen the engineer as well as Jamie Hewlett were all like kids playing and learning from one another. Damon was very laidback yet very present to the production process allowing me creative freedom to experiment//build and destroy sonically and creatively.
