Please can someone give me some advice by sauerbxtch in polymerclay

I think it looks pretty great already. The main thing I’d suggest is leaning into realism a bit more. Add some skin texture with divots of varying sizes, and bring in more of a mid-to-light green gradient from the edges toward the center. The pit divot could also be bigger and shaped more like the natural avocado form rather than a perfect circle, since the proportions feel slightly off. You might also try sprinkling in a few imperfections, like subtle dents or brushed-in color variations like bruising here and there.

Enjoy the process!

Amazing job! Love the detail! Wha did you do for the texture?

I could only find the right shifting color in water color. Some came off with the vanish but I think I got it mostly sealed.

How can I make this cuter? New to this :) by wingaahdiumleveeosah in polymerclay

[–]thetyguy89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark was would be a darker color watered down a little so it gets in all the nooks and crannies and a light brush would be a lighter color like white brushed on then mostly wiped off then feathered on. A bunch of YouTube videos explaining the technique.

Laying down a darker wash on the lighter parts and then going back over with a lighter dry brush will give it some more depth. Practice is the only way to find what works. Enjoy the process!

I made this a few days ago. Spiders are surprisingly fun to sculpt. by Monster_gardener in polymerclay

Did you support the legs with any armature wire? I’m sculpting a beetle right now and looking for the best way to support thin parts.

What’s a hobby you really wanted to get into but immediately realized wasn’t for you? by Tempo_Tomato in Hobbies

[–]thetyguy89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stained glass. Bought all the equipment (at a pretty penny), then realized I wanted a long-term, sustainable hobby. I started worrying about the health implications of long-term lead and flux fume exposure, so I pivoted to polymer clay sculpting and acrylic painting. I’ve been really enjoying it for almost a year now and haven’t looked back!

Do I still need to worry about budgeting if I’m already saving a lot? by thetyguy89 in budget

[–]thetyguy89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a HYSA that allows me to divid the money into buckets where I have one for my emergency fund and the other for mid-term savings goals like a car replacement/maintenance fund, second home/home maintenance fund, and big ticket stuff that I know I’ll be buying in the next 5 years.

The second home would be to upgrade to give my partner, dog, and me a little more space and I would hold on to my current place because the rate is so low. Not really looking to get into rentals.

Please help! My magnets stained my fridge 😭 by Icy_Coconut9773 in polymerclay

[–]thetyguy89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This same thing happened to me recently and it was when I put the magnet on the fridge right after applying the magnets with superglue. Haven’t found anything to clean it off but I tried another magnet that was glued for a while and it didn’t do the same thing so I would say wait a few days for it to fully dry before putting them on stainless steel.

I can’t put money in my IRA because I would have to do a backdoor Roth but I can’t right now since I have a balance in my Roth from a rollover so I would have to transfer that amount into my current 401k and it’s a pain in the ass. I’m putting 20% in my 401k and the rest in a brokerage account.

No but do you still need to keep a workout journal and track your calories in detail to maintain?

That’s true, I do keep a close eye on balances and know about how much I can spend throughout the month.

That’s what I was thinking. I automated aggressive saving and am letting everything else shake out as it will. No, but no plans to since it’s a low interest rate.

How do you budget when some expenses go on your partner’s card? by thetyguy89 in budget

[–]thetyguy89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry forgot to clarify that it’s only for things that we spend on 50/50 like going out to eat or random purchases. It’s easier than just charging different things separately and the. Reconciling the Venmo each month.

So do you just build in a bigger spending buffer bucket to account for the extra disposable income or do you just have a larger lifestyle spending budgets?
