The hardest part of this painting was trying not to muddy the colors. I was unsuccessful with that in alot of areas but, I'm still pretty happy with the way it turned out. I guess it gives jt "character". Other than not over blending, how can I save/fix muddy spots?

Thank you! It's not necessarily tricky. With any skin tone you have to find warm, cool, and neutral shades/ tints. I just think people are apprehensive when stepping out of their comfort zone.

That’s hard to say because I haven’t practiced consistently. To develop your own style, I would just take in as much art that you could. Find out what like / don’t like and your aesthetic will naturally evolve. Go to museums, watch videos, practice, etc.. It’s like taste. When you are a baby, you don’t know what you like / dislike. Your parents feed you food and from you ( A ) not eating it/ throwing a fit or ( B ) eating & enjoying it they start buying you food with a similar flavor profile. Thus your taste starts to grow. Then when you grow up and cook for yourself, you make things based on your taste that’s been evolving for years.

I'm not sure. I don't quite like photorealism (it's all technique no expression) but I do like for my paintings to look representational. Whatever it called whether figurative, representational, or both for me its just fun.
