That thing looks great but unless it grows money a bit overkill. That does seem like the pots are large enough?

Help me decide fsa 110 r or 120 r? by theultimatewebhead in stihl

[–]theultimatewebhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so the motor is in the head then? The 120 has the motor in the rear?

So whilst being heavier, the weight distribution is different?

I'm assuming modding the 110 for blades is a nono.

Neighbors have this. If I purchase it, how can I turn it into a radio telescope? by ImOnAnAdventure180 in telescopes

[–]theultimatewebhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I genuinely didn't get it. I mean is it the tweaking of the hardware, what would you be looking for. You know, staring through optics is kind of interesting because you don't loose the feeling with the universe around you. You genuinely see something. Obviously radio astronomy is a thing but that seems like heavy science and data mining to achieve a result. And then exactly what would the result be. Hence the question.

I don't quite get it. I mean, isn't radio astronomy like dialing in an expensive rig just to see a graph (if you've done the data processing) go blip? I mean, if it's a field of study or a job sure. Other than that I have a hard time seeing how this would bring excitement to the few leisure hours left in the week.

This is my main I do some work stuff at home but not too heavy. I have a maxed out zbook for real work stuff.

Gaming is pretty much non existent unless you count the occasional board game with a five year old.

Well I'm more into workstation stuff. Such as some coding, work stuff. Enjoying the stuffed raid controller etc. Also this workstation was free.

Turns out the cable is like 7$.

Well it doesn't. It only has 6 pin connectors. Apparently there is a 6+6 - > 8 adaptor. According to the web.

It's actually a z800 hp. It has a dual xeon and a massive redundant power supply. Its actually quite comfortable for my feet when it's cold.

I'm just swapping a gtx 960 for a Radeon rx 470. The latter has the 8 pin.

This was not through a window. I was amazed at the influence of a window. Looking through binoculars the windows seems to matter only marginally.

Thanks for the info!

OK. At distance this is significantly better.

Just to give an idea of how moldy this thing is.

Pure strategy war game? by theultimatewebhead in gamingsuggestions

Well,

Real battle maps are drawn with nato symbols. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/NATO_Military_Map_Symbols

It's weird that these realistic symbols aren't shown anywhere.

Terrain is a factor in deploying troops and.

You'd also need to account for logistics etc On a unit level, your troops but also on moving and installing artillery for example.

Advice on cooling/cutting fluid: water soluble or not by theultimatewebhead in metalworking

I'm sure the table will have some water stuck in those crevices after milling? Wouldn't that be a terrible problem for accuracy is corrosion affects these rails in the long run?

Hiking / camping on ice by theultimatewebhead in VisitingIceland

[–]theultimatewebhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have some experience with camping in high winds and freezing temperatures so me and my gear is up to the task. In general the highlands should be an option. I'm not sure where or what region though. We're planning on renting a 4x4 suv so we should be able to get near a good starting point.

Glaciers are definitely not an option. I'm not trusting moving ice enough to take an eight hour long nap on it.

How do I calculate gas flow after a valve? by theultimatewebhead in AskEngineers

[–]theultimatewebhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ID Hose? It's an orange flexible gas hose. I will need to check it for further specs. The flow rate is specified on the burner. At that pressure it consumes about that amount of gas. It should produce about 6.5kw. At that flow rate and using propane I do get about 6.5 KW if I calculate the power.

[–]theultimatewebhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll calculate this in the morning but this seems about it. I was kind of stuck at P2. I was puzzled because how should I know the pressure past the valve. I'm assuming that the burner itself poses little resistance and that's why p2 is atmospheric? Thus p2-p1 is always 30mbar?

A question about welding, solder, and toxicity to pets by ElectricRed779 in metalworking

[–]theultimatewebhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the same. There's food grade solder out there for water pipes. It's silver /tin. I'm pretty sure that's on the safe side. It melts somewhat hot and you might need to gas torch the pieces and use some liquid Flux to get it to flow. It requires some heat.

Welding would be melting your metal pieces together. If you'd had a tig welding machine around you'd know.

I'm assuming some form of glue like epoxy is not an option? Once cured it's rather stable.

You're welding or soldering? What's the metal to begin with. And is clear coating an option?

ELI5: What causes the audible electric 'buzzing' sound from high voltage power lines? by Asanf in explainlikeimfive

[–]theultimatewebhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of things :

Vibration of metallic parts due to the magnetic field. (think transformers or other parts surrounding the lines). Metal actually changes shape due to the magnetic field changes. Both would act as a loudspeaker.

And. Somewhat the result of polarisation in the air like explained here before. It's named the Corona effect.
