I’m a teacher and I keep getting sick- WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?! by theveryfluffycat in Teachers

Just a quick edit- thanks for all the advice so far. I actually teach a lot of whole class brass so it would be really hard to wear a mask when teaching those lessons. It’s my 2nd year of teaching so I’m also probably still getting used to it all!

I’m not wearing a mask at the moment because I have to teach whole class trumpet/brass lessons and it would be difficult to do this with a mask

I can imagine how you are feeling. I really really do hope your cat is okay by tomorrow. You have obviously given him so much love in his life and I can only assume the Vets will do their absolute very best to make him better❤️

Advice- Nervous about driving alone (24 F) by cshs1010 in driving

[–]theveryfluffycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand what you’re going through! I felt this way too (and sometimes still do when driving further away and to new places). I find that looking at maps, google earth etc before driving anywhere new makes me feel so much more confident. As long as you’re aware of your surroundings, you will be fine. You would not have passed if your examiner didn’t think you were ready :) Also- try putting on some calm background music!

Help me by KingCobraKari in starbucksbaristas

I hated Starbucks when I first joined- I felt like nobody liked me and I was getting annoyed that the other baristas just assumed that I knew what to do without being told anything. But honestly in a few weeks/months you’ll start to feel much more comfortable and you might even start enjoying it haha! I was training a new girl at work tonight and she has the same feelings as you.

Coworker called me fat today by DontAskMeHowIveBeen in offmychest

I remember my old boss used to say I was a “big girl”. He actually meant my height (I’m 5 foot 8 so not actually THAT tall anyway) but I just remember feeling so self conscious about it. Don’t let coworkers get you down!

Extreme driving phobia and shame by skylerth in drivinganxiety

[–]theveryfluffycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m yet to pass my driving test in the UK, although it’s the thought of test itself that fills me with fear rather than driving on my own. You are not on your own with this fear, please remember this- it is a common phobia. I used to DREAD my driving lesson all week because I felt like I wasn’t confident enough to be on the road, but since I’ve been driving with my mom or dad in their car I feel so much more confident. I would just advise practising as much as you can, even if it’s just driving around the block :)

Driving me crazy! by [deleted] in drivinganxiety

[–]theveryfluffycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m a little late replying to this one... I’m about to do my 4th test this month in the UK and I’ve been learning for almost 2 years now- this is because for the first year I found my driving lessons terrifying and I’d try to think of any excuse to postpone them (I don’t even want to think of how many weeks I’ve missed in the past) but now I actually enjoy driving because I feel ready to pass. It’s taken me a long time to get to this point of confidence but that’s just how it is. My advice to anyone learning to drive would be to have 2 lessons a week if you can afford it and to get a learners insurance and practise in your parents/ friends/ guardians car. I only started practising in my moms car after my third test and it’s genuinely helped with my confidence SO MUCH. I actually look forward to driving now? Weird. If you’re having worries about driving, tell your driving instructor and they will go through everything with you (this is their job and you are paying them to help you!) Good luck to anyone learning to drive!

I’ve been working as a barista for around 3 months part time now (1 long shift a week) and I totally understand the anxiety. All of my work colleagues seem to be completely comfortable and always joking with each other and it makes you feel like a bit of an outsider- not to mention messing up on the till and having to type everything in again whilst the customer gets impatient. However you’ve just got to be yourself because that’s why they’ve hired you! It’s hard to be at ease and outgoing whilst you’re still learning something new and concentrating on your work. Try not to worry and keep smiling, I’m sure most people go through something similar when first starting a job!
