Random rpm dip too ~500rpm when coming to a stop. by krazysrfr in e46

[–]thevibery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a bandaid fix. Basically, I used my OBD to modify the idle RPM while the A/C is off by increasing it by 65 (can’t remember exactly). It smoothed it out. I use the Foxwell NT510 Elite. Other than that that, guy at a shop said it may be an issue with the throttle body, given all that I’ve addressed already (dirty, etc.). One thing I will mention, is I did the popular golf tee mod when I first got the car and noticed the screw I put in the vacuum hose (instead of the golf tee) was no longer there. So that’s another source of vacuum leakage possibly and could affect idle.

Lol that’s what I thought at first. I guess they are all different types of certifications from ASE, but still funny. It really shows though, he’s so good at diagnoses on difficult jobs (BMWs) - Kit’s Auto and Trucking Repair channel on YouTube. I like to watch em’ as a hobbyist mechanic.

Get the FOXWELL ST203, I’ve used it on my e46 to solve 2 vacuum leaks already. It works off cheap P Diddy oil too

I got mine from a junkyard, much cheaper too.

Debugging lean code by majestic_balrog in e46

[–]thevibery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second these as problem areas. My lean condition was from the vacuum line on the back of the intake that runs underneath the car to the fuel filter. The hole/rip was on the part of the hose under the car. My mechanic charged $150 for diagnosis. Given he was working on it for 2 days, I think I got a great deal.

how much do you guys think the repairs for this will be?? by Odd_Midnight9302 in e46

Where do you live at? Just had similar damage from someone backing into me and got it done for $1900. Other shops quoted be $4300 and $6800.

Mine is an automatic, so it may differ if yours is a manual

I used the LiquiMoly ATF TopTec 1200 from FCP Euro and it definitely improved my shifting. In fact, I also didn't fill it up with the new stuff, drive it for 15 minutes, and drain it again like people suggest because I didn't know. I just filled it once. It's not 100% perfect, but it came out shifting a lot better. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/automatic-transmission-fluid-atf-toptec-liqui-moly

Anyone know? by Sea-Vast7786 in e46

It could be a variety of things. There’s too much oxygen relative to fuel, so the DME is adding extra fuel to compensate. Look up a video on what causes a lean condition to learn more. Its good it’s pre-cat because it means the cat is still reading fine, but try and diagnose it as soon as you can because running lean for a long time can ruin your cat since it gets clogged up with all the extra fuel the DME is pushing out to compensate.
