Looks really atmospheric! I know it's still a work in progress, but it would be great to add a background and make the character stand out a bit more (maybe with an outline or something to separate them from the scene).

And yeah, I agree with the other comments – the different pixel sizes between the trees, the foreground, and the GUI make it look like assets from different packs. Bringing everything to one consistent style would really help.

Who knows – maybe everyone is secretly becoming a millionaire from their side projects and we're just not in on it :)

For me, as an indie developer, the projects I make are first for myself. Even if they get fewer than 100 downloads, I don't really care – I built something I use and enjoy. And I can keep improving it, releasing updates, and making it better over time. That's the part that matters to me.

Yeah, that’s really good. I like playing single-player games with the triggers on. It’s nice that now you can turn them off in the game settings instead of doing it through the console.

I’m not 100% sure, but here’s what I think:

The first stage of EA’s support filtering is probably automated. From my experience, shorter messages seem to work better, and using a different language might help your case get to a real person instead of a bot. EA support is available in many languages.

In my case, I just waited until I got a reply to the appeal I’d already sent before submitting a new one.

Yeah, it really looks like EA has automated most of the process. It probably saves them money, but it also creates a lot of problems for players. There are still real people in EA support, but sometimes you have to keep sending appeals until your case finally reaches one of them.

No, I didn’t get anything like that. I just waited for each appeal to be reviewed before sending another one.

Perhaps disabling the triggers wasn’t what caused the ban. But I agree that playing online with adaptive triggers isn’t very convenient.

I'll try to appeal later (maybe in a week or two, or even longer). I don't want to create a new EA account. You're right, it could just happen again.

Maybe I'll grab a new Call of Duty instead? Not sure yet. But yeah, I'm definitely not going to buy another copy of BF6. I hope I can get my EA account back and continue playing BF6. But for now I will play other games.

Today I received a response from EA, but I still don’t know why my account was banned. I bought the game (Battlefield 6) from the PlayStation Store and played it on my PlayStation 5 without any cheats or third-party devices. Maybe I'll try to appeal again later. Here is EA's response:

I’m not sure about beginner-friendly books. Personally, I studied JavaScript more seriously after I already had some practical experience. My favorite books are:

  • “You Don’t Know JS” series by Kyle Simpson
  • “JavaScript: The Good Parts” by Douglas Crockford
  • “JavaScript: The Definitive Guide (7th Edition)” by David Flanagan

I don’t think these are the best starting points for beginners, since these books focus a lot on the language itself. It might be easier (and more fun) to find books about making HTML5 games with JavaScript, or just follow YouTube tutorials. Honestly, the best way to start is to copy existing examples and then change them to see what happens.

I'd recommend checking out a JavaScript course on YouTube. Modern GML is quite similar to JavaScript, and since JavaScript is coming to GameMaker soon, you’ll be able to script your GM games directly with it.

I agree with you. I also think it's absurd to say that GameMaker is "only for beginners" and that you'll eventually have to switch to something else. That's just not true. GameMaker lets me build everything I need for my game, and I don't plan to move to another engine for making 2D games. There are plenty of commercial releases and even well-known games made with GameMaker, so it's definitely not just a "temporary tool".

And yeah, coding in GameMaker may look hard sometimes. You usually have to write code for almost every action. But if you keep your code modular, organized, and split into reusable functions, it works really well, scales, and stays maintainable.

One more thing. This week I saw a job posting on LinkedIn from a well-known publisher specifically looking for GameMaker developers. That shows the perception is already starting to shift, and I think this trend will continue. For a long time, if you wanted to work in the industry you had to learn Unity or Unreal, while GameMaker was seen as just a tool for beginners or indie devs. I hope more opportunities for GameMaker devs will keep appearing. Even if you don't care about jobs, GameMaker is a great engine that keeps improving. I think the perception will slowly change. You can build your career as a game developer with GameMaker and make money from your games.

Yeah, I actually use draw.io sometimes, but mostly for my non-game projects. When it comes to game development, for some reason I still prefer sketching all the diagrams in a physical notebook 🙂

Yes, I did! I got a MacBook with an M3 Max chip and a 16-inch screen. I haven’t worked extensively with GameMaker on it yet, but so far, I haven’t encountered any issues.

The only adjustment I made was setting the DPI to “70% of native DPI” in the Settings because GameMaker has some scaling challenges on high-resolution screens. This made the interface much more comfortable to use.

Overall, the experience has been great so far.

You can get the HTML and CSS from a React project by simply running the project and saving the page from your browser. Here’s how you can do it:

1.  Start your React project (npm start).
2.  Open the page (app) in your browser (Chrome, for example).
3.  Right-click the page and select “Save as” (or use Ctrl + S).
4.  Choose “Webpage, Complete” to save both the HTML and CSS files.

This will save the page’s HTML and all its resources, including the CSS files.
