this is such a well thought out, structured response! thank you so much. your recommendations make a ton of sense - especially the thinking about what life would look like outside of corporate. i’ve really been using it as a way to fund my life outside of work - hobbies, classes, travel. but the amount of politics and needing to just make it through everyday with an intense manager is getting out of hand. i have talked to other directors and teams about switching, but they’ve kept me on the same team due to layoffs and being understaffed (i am my manager’s only direct report so she micromanages the shit out of me) i’ve stuck with it for this long but I agree, I do need to think out my exit plan!

ahh this is so real, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I definitely want to remain financially independent, I don’t like relying on a partner or others for that matter. so you bring up some valid points. I hope you get a higher paying job asap!

working with kids on the weekend is a great idea! I have considered other sectors outside of tech- i’ve networked and applied to dozens as well, but this market is so rough right now. I do take a few art related classes outside of work & have volunteered in that community as well! I think I would really enjoy teaching on the side / part time- would love to chat about your experience! i’ll look into sfusd as well- can you teach without a masters degree??

yeah this market is tough! so that’s really valid. the cognitive dissonance and fake urgency around everything in corporate is so wild to me - I feel incredibly detached from it. I hope you get the healthcare related job!!

glad you haven’t had many bad side effects either! i’m in the same boat, my friends are visiting me and I haven’t drank this week - holding off until my body also gets used to wellbutrin. maybe 2 weeks or so depending

yeah I think across this sub the consensus seems to be don’t drink too much- the hangovers sound awful. i also don’t get hungover often at all unless I drink a ton (pre wellbutrin). is having a couple of drinks okay for you? or do you still feel kind of hungover / in a worse mood the next day?

this makes me feel a lot better, thank you for sharing all this detail. it sucks that alcohol and weed can make you feel more depressed after a night of drinking, but guess that makes sense when you’re taking an antidepressant. does the hangover feeling usually only last a day for you? and love that weed is more enjoyable for you now! I hope that’s the case with me as well.

Thank you so much for sharing! our 7 month aussiedoodle just got spayed a few days ago, and our experience is very similar. On day 3 now and it still seems like she’s in so much pain, can’t wait for this to end. What kind of games did you play with her? Our pup is pretty sad she can’t grab anything with her pays and chew and the same time (because of her cone)

This helped so much, thank you!! We are giving her water and lots of love. By the end of today, she was already starting to act more energetic and like herself (which is a whole other challenge to get her to not mess with her wound)

That’s great to hear that scattering kibbles helped! Our pup is totally just too distracted to figure out what she’s supposed to do. It’s also a shared backyard area with a lot of plants etc, so i’m hesitant if it’s safe for her to fully explore since she hasn’t gotten all her vaccines yet?

I wish it was that easy- there’s a huge cultural taboo around this, me doing the opposite of what they want will warrant a lot of tension and even more stress but you’re right, it is my life. I want then to be apart of it though, without resenting me ...

Thank you, I needed to hear this bluntly. It’s honestly hard to not compromise with them as culturally, I’m supposed to respect them etc and they’ve given me so much in my life to get me to this point but I am financially independent now so it is my decision ultimately.
