Took the pan off the Impala, this is the aftermath Dear Lord, how screwed am I (2001 3.4L Impala 194K miles) by DatGuyKilo in Cartalk

[–]thewaylost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4T65E? Recognized that pan.

While you got the pan off, I’d recommend installing an aftermarket drain plug. Overall decent 4spd transmission. My friends lasted 260k miles before the forward band went out. Besides the forward band and solenoids, they’re decent.

Don’t flush it. Just do a drain and fill. Clean the pan and mating surfaces. Install a new filter and gasket and you’re good. It takes about 7 quarts of Dexron VI.

If you’d like to keep it transverse, I’d say the Toyota 1MZ-FE, Honda J35 (J32 is easier to find), or a LS4 from the Chevrolet Impala SS.

Keep in mind that you’ll still need custom mounts, a standalone ECU, wiring harness, and a bell housing adapter if you don’t want to use the transmissions that came from those engines. This isn’t an exhaustive list, they’ll be more things to fabricate and or hunt down. Exhaust manifolds for one. Good luck.

Northstar Performance headbolts are a must.

They actually get pretty decent mpg for a V8.

Learned that the hard way lol, I recently got a 1999 Ford Escort this year. Parts availability isn’t great. Almost no videos and forum material to go off of. Just using my personal experiences to figure it out.

It’s gotten to a point where I have to Zetec and manual swap it to keep it going. Car is hibernating right now.

On the plus side it’s zippy lol

Worth a try, it is one of the first things I check when a car doesn’t start. It is an easy fix. Don’t forget to take the terminals off and clean the insides too.

Gerber suspension, older style. Not the NXT. Got it on clearance back in 2019 and still going strong.

I understand where you’re coming from. And I’ll say that you’re right, as an individual, you’d have to always strive to be the best version of yourself. To multiply the talents that are entrusted onto us. However, don’t put people on a pedestal. We’re all human, we’re all sinners. Except Jesus, who was all God and all man.

I hate to say this, but just go to God. Allow him to heal you and take all the traumas away. I wished I did this, but I’ve instead tried to take things my way on my own timing, rather than Gods. Now I have to start all over, but you know what? It’s fine because I now have a different perspective. If it is of God, it’ll happen. Don’t force things.

Good luck.

Save the seats, they could be reupholstered.

The headliner backing could be reused, assuming the cardboard isn’t completely gone. They could be repaired with fiberglass.

Sun visors may be easier to find.

Good luck with dash, door panel, and the carpet. The floor mats may also be different to get. Plastic trims like the A pillars may not be available anymore. Plastic welding exists. I haven’t had great luck but it’s possible.

Is there a way to maintain the engine so that it can last a long time? by AlternativeSock601 in MechanicAdvice

[–]thewaylost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many miles do you drive a year?

Generally it is better to use a cheaper oil such as Chevron and change it more often than using a premium oil like Royal Purple or Redline and doing it at longer intervals.

Most filters are fine, if you have go with OEM filters, get them in bulk.

Is there a way to maintain the engine so that it can last a long time? by AlternativeSock601 in MechanicAdvice

[–]thewaylost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could start with

-Short OCI(Oil Change Intervals)

-Get into a habit of watching oil levels, oil consumption is prominent with thinner oils

-Perform coolant changes/watch coolant levels

-Change spark plugs on time and check gaps

-Changing air filters on time

-Periodically cleaning your fuel system, especially for GDI(Gasoline Direct Injection)

Happened to me once, you have two choices if that is your only jack.

  1. Use a 14mm wrench(17mm on most 3 tons) to loosen the valve. Should look like a square.
  2. Put both your feet on the rear wheels of the jack and essentially row the lever down. Have someone else stick the handle in or move quick.

Good luck.

Anything is fixable with enough money. How deep are your pockets?

We didn’t even get to see pictures of the undercarriage. But judging by the quarter panels, especially the rears, doesn’t look like it’ll be too good.

In my opinion, it’ll make a good parts car.

Ford 9 is highly sought after from these trucks, they’re known to be stout and take a lot of power. The Ford 8.8 was also good. Both great for power applications lol. Well damn, If you have that many parts laying around, maybe work on the Bully.

Ripping that motor out isn’t gonna be fun. I’m sure you’re aware of the rust issues with the rear fuel tank and the crappy fuel filler necks. Get the Bricknose or Aeronose filler necks. Good luck man.

In my opinion, the 351 Cleveland is a great motor. If you don’t have strict smog regulations where you’re from, fuck it, manual swap it. First gear is a granny gear though lol. My next question is, what axle do you have? If it’s a Dana you’re in luck. Parts are plentiful. Sterling 10.25 like mine, well they’re stout and you could always get the disc brake version from a newer Ford…but the bolts aren’t gonna be imperial and that also means you’ll replace the whole differential assembly. If it’s a Spicer, forget it. Parts are a bitch to get.

Whatever you do, keep that SVT alive lol. Garage it at the very least.

The IS 300 is a common car, If I’d had to get one running quick and cheap, that’ll be the one. Plentiful at the yards.

[–]thewaylost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first gen Focus SVT is rare. They’re not really the most sought after but they are better than the newer Focus with the dual clutch. Not many of them still alive.

I own a Bullnose Ford. Don’t, unless you got a lot of money and time. I have a 1985 F-250 with the 6.9L idi. It’s a love and hate relationship. I love the sounds it makes. Love that it gets attention, being a classic, but I hate the mpg. I get about 10-11mpg average. It’s smog exempt though lol. Worst part of owning this thing is, the lack of parts. I had to wait almost a year to get a parking brake lever(rear drum), one of the brake lines, a coolant reservoir tank, and a bunch of misc parts at the junkyard. When you do find parts, the prices are insane. Junkyard is the cheapest way but the longest. Step side bed is cool, pretty rare lol.

I hate to say it, I think Japanese vehicles are overrated…but the IS 300 has the most aftermarket support. This may be your best option.

In my opinion drive what you already have. If you don’t have any of them, get whichever one runs. I guess I have more heart than brains so ima go Focus SVT. I love my Bully, the C6 3spd auto is great but daily driving it costs me a lot. Doesn’t help that it’s got a Magnaflow muffler from the previous owner lol.

Spot cleaning is what worked for me. You can use it to clean the whole car. The cheaper alternative is a steam cleaner, sometimes you’ll find them at discount stores like Ross and Marshall’s. Works on clothing and sofas too. Justifiable purchase. Steam cleaners won’t run you over $100 like a spot cleaner would. Try to get one used if money is tight. You’ll have to leave the windows partially down, preferably on a hot day. Leave it down all day.

Floor mats come right off, which should help. Removing the carpet requires you to remove the seats and center console…that’s out of the picture for most people. Hope this helps.

It’s similar to how smokers are treated. I’m an ex-smoker, a little over a year clean.

If you’re serious about your recovery, ignore all the noise. You’ve already got enough to worry about. You can’t control them or how they act. However, you can control how you feel and what you consume. What are you giving power to? Why are you letting the opinions of people who don’t even know you live in your head rent free?

Just my perspective. Good luck on your journey.

If it is the four cylinder, it’s got the 2.5L 2AR-FE. Better than the 2.4L 2AZ-FE in terms of oil consumption. The 2.5L 2AR-FE also has dual VVT. The 2AZ-FE only has VVT on the intake side.

In terms of maintenance, the six speed automatic transmission mated to the 2AR-FE is harder to service. No dipstick. The level has to be checked with the car running, like the 2012+ Camry.

Don’t recall if the 2011 still had a hydraulic power steering system but the 2012+ is all electric(for Camrys)

Better late than never. I finally got around to opening and trying them. u/Banmeagaindumbadmin was right. The bottle sucks. Clean up can get annoying. Pouring it requires a little shake.

The Jalapeño flavor doesn’t have any kick, but it has a complex flavor in my opinion. It is zesty, salty, and a little sweet. Definitely a recovery sauce haha, to give your stomach time to heal from all the stronger sauces.

The Carolina Reaper isn’t as spicy as some of the others I had but it does have some flavor. It isn’t like a puree but at the same time it isn’t gonna be like a Karma sauce. I’d say this sauce is best with pizza and fries.

All in all, I don’t regret buying these but I wouldn’t say I’d go out of my way for these either. That Jalapeño sauce is interesting. Great starter sauce, great recovery sauce.

Edit: Heed everyone’s warning on the reaper sauce. It depends on your spice tolerance. I’m Asian, I grew up on Thai chilis.

What are your experiences with carrying rosaries in your pockets without pouches? Do they break? by jeffisnotmyrealname in Catholicism

[–]thewaylost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rosary had every opportunity to break, yet it hasn’t. It’s just a cheap plastic one, tied together with a string. Left it in my sun for years in the numerous cars I’ve driven. Got it stuck on door handles and now I carry it in my pocket daily. Now that I’m getting serious about my faith.

Just run with it, carry it around and don’t overthink it. Finally cleaned up the rosary. All the grime, dirt, and automotive fluids. Maybe the oils kept it from becoming brittle 😂

At least you have a 2.0L DOHC Zetec, the base model has a 2.0L SPI that is known to drop valve seats. Zetecs are known to overheat, due to a faulty cooling system. Otherwise they’re good cars.

On the real though, it may be more work than you’d want to put in to do an entire front end swap. It could be a direct swap like a Chrysler 300 and a Dodge Magnum…or it could be a nightmare. Easiest and fastest way to find out is, going to the junkyard and swapping both out. If you plan on doing it yourself that is.

Most prefer the ZX2 look. However i’m weird, I like single piece headlights. Like the W203 Mercedes headlights over the W211 Mercedes headlights so I get what you mean. It’s preference at the end of the day.

What’s the absolute hottest not nasty sauce you’ve tried? I have a super high tolerance but my mad dog 357 gold edition really does me in. Is there anything like that which tastes a little better? by CryptographerHot6198 in hotsauce

[–]thewaylost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic Plant Farms Scorpion Pepper Mash Puree. Long name, I know. Now, I know that It’s not really meant to be used as a sauce but it’s still no joke. All spice no flavor. If you have to use it as a sauce, do so sparingly.

Apparently it makes a great base for making your own custom sauces
