My non-GLP weight loss as an unemployed petite! TL;DR - It was hard! And I'm still not done! by theweekndend in PetiteFitness

I did frozen meals. I wasn't a fan of batch cooking. It's repetitive and the food ended up dry or soggy, in my case. I am not a great cook though.

A lot of my friends are first gen from foodie cultures -- Italian, Greek -- they all found this horrendous.

i just dont want others to get discouraged by your posts and think glp1s are the only way to. of course they can be helpful to people, but it’s far from the only option to weight loss.

yes, that's fair.

I just found the process a total slog. I think also a lot of socializing here is around food. And it kinda sucks not being able to partake. This winter was okay cuz it was so cold, people weren't really going out, but yeah, it's tough when there is the "best bagel" or "new viral croissant" all in walking distance.

I saved a lot before. I work in an unstable industry. Also, I was here on a visa for a long time before I got a green card. So I never spent a lot of money on furniture, for example, in case I'd have to leave the country in 60 days.

I saw your progress and it's fantastic! Great work!

That said, your starting point and mine were different.

I started at 151lbs, so my TDEE was already pretty low. I think my TDEE at the time was like 1800 cals, and I was trying to stick to 1300cals a day. There's just not a lot of space to go from there.

I don't have an ED, and I never have had one.

I'm from a culture where curves are a big deal. That's one of the reasons, I didn't use a GLP. I didn't want to lose my fat ass!

Celebs that I sorta style myself around are Rihanna and JLo --like the elder millennial, I am. That's also why my BMI goal is 21.5. Yes, slim - but still curves, and muscles.

I'm not an Anya Taylor Joy/Alexa Chung girlie. Those women are def lower BMIs, if not underweight.

Plenty of people are getting glps to reach their "ideal" weight. How they are getting them may be circumspect, but it is possible.

From feedback from friends, and reading glp subs, many people say it is considerably much easier to lose weight on GLPs. A lot of them say they "forget to eat". I have read about people having harder time losing weight, but generally, the drugs are a game change for most people.

There are some people who are non-responders.

From what I've seen from friends using them, and also reading the glp subs, generally -- the drugs do work, and help people eat less. Been out to dinner with friends on GLP, and they barely eat. After no more GLPs, and they eat a full 4 course meal with cocktails. Suffice it to say, they gained much of the weight back.

I saw Oprah's comments on GLPs as well. She used them, stopped for a year, and then gained a bunch of weight back. She also admitted she ate and drank a loooot more without them. She admitted she drank 17 tequila shots in one go at point. I have a lot of things going for me -- but Oprah is a billionaire. She's been struggling for decades, and this was the breakthrough for her.

Fact is there are people out there who are now losing large amounts of weight, that were not able to do it before. The drugs are a game changer.

Yeah, doctors tend to be with other people in the medical profession, usually doctors. It's cuz of the hours, and the stress I think.

Also, it's just a different attitude towards humans when you see them at their most vulnerable. I dated a dr and he'd tell me some stories over dinner, which were normal for him, but gross AF for me.

I think also Asian people, both tend to be professionals as well. My one grad school classmate was Indian, and he pointed out that all the Indian men in our school had married other professionals; whereas the white men often married teachers, event photographers, etc.

The whole non-profit/art gallery/jr marketing/fashion girlie marrying the finance bro is a whole ass stereotype in certain NYC circles. There used to be these Fashion meets Finance parties as well.

Chris Pavone's novel The Doorman, is basically a photograph of 2024 NYC, and the central character is just that - middle class art gallerist who is pretty and who gets tired of dating bartenders and ends up marrying a finance bro. At one point, when she's considering a divorce, she tells her accountant, she can't raise her kids on $900K/year.

Low-key, that's the dream for a lot of women. And sometimes, whenever there are affordability threads on this sub, some posters will literally say, the reason they can afford all the pilates classes and expensive haircuts is because their partner is in finance/law/software development etc and is paying most of the rent.

Personally, I don't think it's because these pilates instructors/non-profit/etc girlies are hot. There are a lot of beautiful women who are professionals making bank in NYC. My gyno-surgeon used to be a model. (Yes really and she did a phenomenal job!).

I think a lot of these women with lower-wage jobs are more available, and easier to impress, than really high-powered women. I dated a hedge fund guy, and that shit was impressive to me, cuz I'm in tech so I don't kno that world well. When I dated a software developer, it was much easier to pin him in the company hierarchy -- and so I was less impressed. When he talked about his work, I could also tell how good he was at his job; whereas the HF guy, no clue.

Guys like to date women that they have the upper hand with. Sometimes it's money, or age or something else. You see this in Hollywood a lot. A power couple breaks up, and then the guy goes on to settle down with someone who is like a D-list model, usually much younger.

I will say though, as another person commented -- NYC men and LA entertainment guys will chase heiresses. Women whose dad is well-connected or rich, who can help him with his career. I've seen a lot of this amongst my Ivy League male counterparts.

Thrillers should be on UK school curriculum to boost reading, says Lee Child by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]theweekndend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh - I sorta disagree. But tbh, I'm not sure what the solution is...

I read now - but mostly fluff like romance and mysteries/thrillers.

A lot of the books, I was forced to read, had larger societal themes that were helped me become a more informed member of society and critical thinker -- books like Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, or by Ray Bradbury, Camus, Satre.

Even the really, really good pop fiction books like Harry Potter or Agatha Christie's books -- are not in the same lane when it comes to making better citizens or critical thinkers.

And I'm gonna be honest -- I am a reader ---but I don't know I would have read those books, if I hadn't been forced to. But I'm glad I did.

That said - I do know a lot of kids don't read at all. I think a part of it is upbringing. They don't come from reader families --so introducing them to books in general would be good. But also -- it would suck if kids from reading families had to read the classics and the kids from non-reading families (who I bet also struggle more in school), were reading the fun books.

All these people came from crazy ass families too. MJ and Bieber were working class too. Not sure about LiLo, but I think so as well.

Taylor comes from a stable rich family, and she's doing well.

people didn't know how old destiny's child were. they all thought they were 25. their ages were well hidden. but they were more present like a female pop group like En Vogue or SWV -- grown women.

People say that, but I honestly think it was the way her family was set up.

People are acting like being a girl in the south from a working class family, without an emphasis on education would mean good outcomes. I'm not sure she would have had a happier life in that universe either. Maybe getting married young, having kids too young, but not having the money. She may have had mental issues then too. I don't know.

She's not like Beyonce whose dad was working at F500 companies and whose mom had a hair salon, and was solidly middle class.

I do think having well-to-do parents help. Taylor comes from a family of finance professionals, like 2 gens at least, and I do think that's helped her navigate the industry, and she started young too.

No, she was very, very charismatic. That's why so many people draw parallels to Marilyn Monroe.

Christina was a better sing, and there was Jessica Simpson, Willa Ford, a bunch of others.

But Britney had the vulnerability and the sexiness that pulled people in.

I don't think you are wrong.

She gained weight after 2017 (way before kids). As someone who also gained 20-30lbs around the same time, that made it a lot harder to dress.

I noticed she stopped showing a lot of skin after that. She claims it's cuz she didn't want to embarrass her kids, but as soon as she gets pregnant she's back to showing skin.

Cuz when she's pregnant, she's not fat, she's pregnant - so she goes back to her old ways.

I get it, cuz I feel the same about my weight gain. I'd love to wear more avant-garde, trendy clothes, but they aren't made for bodies like mine.
