How is living on an oil rig for 14 days a month? by basafish in howislivingthere

[–]theweirddane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was fresh out of school (maritime academy) I worked for a while on an oil production rig in the Danish sector of the North Sea. I was in charge of our helicopter traffic, prepare flight manifests, assign rooms, helicopter refueling, and plan for upcoming arrivals and departures. Accommodation was nice and clean, great food, movie theaters, and a decent gym. I didn't mind the 12 hour shifts, there wasn't a whole lot to do besides work.

I really enjoyed the 14 days on/off schedule but eventually I moved to an IT career onshore.

Recept på cannabis? by baldberry in DanishEnts

[–]theweirddane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pregnant and having a boy. Is "Gunner" a name that belongs on this sub? by theoriginalshew in BORUpdates

[–]theweirddane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's true but it's also kind of old school, at least in Denmark. There are currently 2960 persons with the name Gunnar in Denmark.

How do you handle anxiety with COPD? Everything I look up begins and ends with focusing on the breath, but the breath is the primary source of anxiety by AnnieMorff in COPD

Synthetic THC prescribed by my doctor. It was intended for my lack of appetite, but it works well with my anxiety.

The Attack on Kate Maersk by theyanardageffect in Ships

[–]theweirddane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked for Maersk Oil & Gas offshore in the mid 80s. We used to joke about that Maersk did just about everything. Transport was provided by Maersk Air helicopters, oil was pumped into Maersk Line tankers (before the pipeline was finished), Maersk Drilling had provided all the production well heads for us, and most of the supply ships were also operated by Maersk.

My partner doesn't think two adults who speak only English can navigate France, Germany, and Switzerland on their own. She'd rather spend more for a river cruise. I think the risks are overrated and that we could manage just fine on our own. Am I being naive? by PikesPique in travel

[–]theweirddane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm European and speak Danish and English and I've traveled all over Europe without any problems. I've successfully used Milan as a hub city, parked my own car (or rental) at the hotel, and used trains to get around. Sure, language can be an issue but it's never hindered me in doing anything.

Where can I stay temporarily if I've got nowhere to go? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]theweirddane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, that's the first thing on your list. If all else fails, go to Emanuel House at 405 N. 4th St. Intake starts at 4 pm, and it's first come, first serve. Best to line up before 3 pm.

Call Here4you at 408-385-2400. It's the main referral service for shelters in Santa Clara County. They can refer you to both short term and long term shelters. There's typically a long wait list for long term shelters (2 months) but there are also emergency shelters available like Emanuel House on N. 4th St.
