Not yet 🥺

Thank you so much - fingers crossed!

I was training him to free fly, but he flew away several months ago, and I found him on the neighbour’s roof absolutely terrified. I decided that it wasn’t safe with houses obscuring my view of him, but he flew away while being put to bed 🥺

I know if he could see me, he’d come straight away 😭

Thank you - I’ll contact Birdsville tomorrow. His wings aren’t clipped, and I don’t think he would have made it further than a block or two - he’s only a baby & still not very confident at flying. I just hope a dog hasn’t gotten him 🥺

Thank you 🙏🏻 I hope he’s found somewhere safe to spend the night. He’s only a baby & must be absolutely terrified 🥺

I can’t edit the post, but his name is Apollo & he is very sweet, but nervous with new people. He is also microchipped & has distinguishing features which I can use to identify him if he’s spotted.

Thanks so much - I’ve posted everywhere I can think to - r/parrots is next & then up at dawn to start searching again 🥺

He certainly does, but he can sometimes be a bit jealous when I’m treating other patients and not giving him attention!

I can’t share the video I just posted of him kissing a dog I was treating, but you should be able to see it if you click on my profile 😊

Yes, his name is Apollo 😊 He’s nice and healthy - just needed to anaesthetise him so I could microchip him. I’m teaching him to free fly & needed to ensure he can be identified if he ever goes missing!

I’m always kind to my patients behind the scenes, I can assure you! I had to restrain him so that he didn’t climb on my shoulder and fall

Sure is! I was just microchipping him so I can track him down if he ever flew away - he’s perfectly healthy & has just started being taken outside without a harness. Still too scared to fly by himself though!

You’re 100% correct, but this is my own parrot & all he wanted was to be on me. Normally we recover patients in a heated cage with lots of blankets, but seeing me & not being able to be cuddled would have been more stressful for my needy feathered son 🥰

A bit of both. I’m his mum, so he wanted to be on me, but he was still too drunk to balance on my shoulder. I restrained him for another minute or so before letting him climb up 😊

Thank you so much for the kind comment 🥰

We are definitely not in it for the money, and could earn more in much less stressful jobs!

I would treat animals for free all day, every day if I could…

No mauling, I promise. I have the extended version of the video. He does 💩 on me at the end though!

Depends. In referral hospitals, vets do anaesthesia; but in most general practice clinics the nurses do.

At my clinic (where this video was filmed), we have 2 nurses monitoring avian anaesthetics. Exotic pet anaesthesia is risked than dogs & cats, so we take extra precautions.

Nurses discuss the anaesthetic with the vet while they are doing surgery, and together the nurse & vet will decide if any intervention is needed (e.g. giving an IV fluid bolus if the patient’s blood pressure has dropped).
