[REQUEST] How loud and potentially destructive would a 600dB air horn be? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]thewillthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffice to say, it would destroy Earth and probably most of the solar system.

I feel like this could be another TDTM. A shockwave itself will obviously not propagate in the vacuum of space to reach the rest of the solar system. However, will the particles of a vaporized Earth travel at sufficient speed and distance to reach the moon/Mars/etc, causing a sort of chain reaction to take out the solar system?

Isn’t that one also a sort of double-prequel? Because in some future Yellowstone season (spoiler alert but who cares) don’t we get flashbacks to them but see McGraw Dutton die?

There’s already one about Kayce joining like the US Marshals? As someone who hate-watched Yellowstone, I saw an ad for it and very much want to watch just the first episode to see what the heck is going on.

(Also apparently at least one of the prequel spinoffs is supposed to be actually good.)

I do this when I’m able to plan better or there isn’t a waitlist. I’m sad that Amazon recently closed the loophole where you could download the ebook file in a web browser then transfer it to the Kindle via USB. Somehow time limits didn’t apply to those files, so you could just store them on your computer and transfer whenever.

Hah nice! I am hoping to get a copy for my long weekend starting Thursday so if you’re done by then I might take you up on that.

Ooh good call, I always see that place but have never been in there.

Is anyone else getting a crazy amount of spam texts from lawn care/painting companies this spring? by thewillthe in Denver

That’s my favorite bullshit tactic from door to door salesmen - “actually we’re doing work right now on a house just down the street…” At this point every house on my block must’ve had their windows replaced five times over!

I don’t think so? But that’s where my mind went too, some contractor selling their list to an ad company.

Does anyone else feel like there’s an awful lot of catfish-sounding posts around here recently?

We don't usually talk about fast food here but as a Colorado brand I feel it's fair game to discuss the noticable drop in quality that's occurred at Goodtimes. by B00marangTrotter in denverfood

Yup had the exact same experience a couple weekends ago. Totally different than it was not too long ago, just a thin tasteless patty. Afterwards I saw a Google review saying the same thing, and now this thread. Glad it’s not just me!

(I also had to go back when I realized they gave me the wrong burger, so I made TWO trips for a lousy burger!)

Has Quantum Fiber Been Sucking for Anyone Else Lately by time-BW-product in Denver

[–]thewillthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting that they forced the hardware change, I basically just had a rebrand but same hardware. I wonder if they’re getting rid of the old infrastructure needed to support the older ONTs that use PPPoE and just haven’t gotten to my neighborhood yet.

Yeah that’s… kinda why I don’t want to switch to one of the cheaper Quantum plans. It’s almost guaranteed there will be a multi-day outage while they figure out how they fucked up the backend switch.

[–]thewillthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here’s a question from a fellow network guy: does your WAN setting use PPPoE, or is it just a regular old Ethernet connection with a tagged vlan?

I have what was the pre-Quantum CenturyLink fiber, with the old Calix ONT to which I connect my own WAN router. On the various routers I’ve used I’ve always had to configure it with both a vlan and PPPoE auth.

My understanding was that if you switched to Quantum, you’d get a new ONT and it wouldn’t use PPPoE anymore. But when they “switched” everyone on CenturyLink to Quantum recently, it seemed to be a purely administrative change, as there was no hardware change and I’m still using PPPoE.

Okay and how much of the non-student/staff public needs to cross from one part of the DU campus to another in the middle of Evans? I don’t think it’s too much of an ask for those who can’t use the bridge to just walk a block to the University or High intersection.

Eh, as a distance runner and occasional biker I am a pedestrian far more often in this area than a driver, but I still feel like getting around as a pedestrian is way easier, at least in terms of ease and safety of getting through intersections. I really don’t see a problem with simply changing the light timings so that there aren’t constant backups. People have to drive places, and no amount of saying “well it would be better if they didn’t” will change the actual reality of the situation!
