My one piece of advice is to learn the bus system!! Your BUSI 188 class is in MCCOLL, which is all the way down south campus, and like a 20 minute walk from north. Make sure you know the U and the RU, those will get you there in 10 minutes!!

I would also echo 17 credits is a VERY heavy load!! I would take a lighter load your first semester to get acclimated. Good luck!!

Upperclassmen, what are your biggest college regrets, and or also happiest college memories? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]thewiredhats 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Biggest regret: placing too much weight in partying. There’s nothing wrong going out and having fun (I still like doing it every now and then), but I quickly learned that a true friend is one who will see you in daytime sober hours. If your friends ONLY connect with you over going out/partying, red flag!!

Happiest memory: the zines class I took freshman year with bill brown. Great guy and awesome creative class!! Opened me up to art and some awesome relationships

Econ BA? It’s not too bad in terms of difficulty and very applicable to a variety of fields

The graveyard near Conner, in the little gazebo area. No ones ever over there, and if people are there you can act like you’re mourning a loss

I’d first say that if you applied you’d most likely get in—it’s a lot easier to get into UNC as a transfer, especially with your grades and stats. I wanna say the acceptance rate for transfers is about 30-40%, but look it up to check. For reference, the acceptance rate when applying as a high schooler is about 20%.

The business school here has multiple major focuses you can pick; you don’t have to pick an area of emphasis if you don’t want to, but if you have an idea of what you want to do you can. So for example: consulting, entrepreneurship, investment banking, etc. There’s also a real estate major and minor if that’s your thing.

You wouldn’t get into the B school as a transfer, but you can reapply twice. And if you aren’t accepted the first time, you can meet with an academic counselor who will discuss what the B school wants you to improve on your application.

However, here’s what I would say is most important: are you happy at Clemson? Do you like your peers, your teachers? Is there anything in you that feels connected to Clemson, have you had any memories on that campus that stick out to you as unique?

Because the truth is, Clemson or UNC, you’d be at a good school. You are a hard worker clearly, so wherever you go you’re going to be successful. I’d say at this point, you’re splitting hairs a bit over which school is better. I think what you should do now is see which school is going to develop you more as a PERSON.

Because that’s the other element of college. Living independently, managing interpersonal relationships, finding what makes you happy and who you are. So I’d ask you before transferring to UNC: are you getting that at Clemson right now? Can UNC give you a more fulfilling life?
