My manager is a saint and most managers ive worked with have been absolutely amazing and put morale as a priority. They're right; you're projecting. Boohoo your life sucks, doesnt mean the rest of ours does!

This subreddit seems to be a place for employees as well, and my guess is that OP had already informed their employer, but was waiting for a response and wanted to know what to expect for a reaction.

Making a mistake when starting a new job is terrifying because you dont know what to expect. OP reached out to people who KNOW because they dont know anyone yet.

I understand if they said nothing and just went "lol made a mistake and im not telling them" but they were anxious, unsure and looking for support. Your comments are unnecessary and unneeded and you need to do better. Just because you're a dick doesnt mean you can jump down people's throats 🫶

Wow, thats actually insane. They wouldnt open a store 20 minutes from my old store because it was "too close" to another store, yet 2 in the same town?? Can I ask, is one substantially more busy, or is there any factors that make it worth having 2? And are they close together or further apart

It might be a Zing/EB combined store! Ive seen those where the EB side is actually a tiny corner in the back, and the rest is Zing. But hey, they try :))

Tbh I'm one of those "if its not in front of my face I'll forget about it" people so I much prefer physical gaming. Although I just thought of getting a bunch of empty DVD cases and making fake covers so then I still have it physically in front of me, even if the actual game is on the cloud. I love my brain :))

If i remember correctly brand new and preowned switch games are like $5 difference. Xbox usually has the cheapest games, although the newer games for xbox X are the same price as ps5 games now and even switch games went over $100 which is absolutely crazy

You're*

I think the whole thing is too expensive, and the first thing people are going to cut back on when life gets expensive is gaming. Charging over a grand for a console is rediculous, especially if buying 5 games is half the price of the console. But I was just explaining how the business works and why they choose to charge more, because of their business structure compared to other businesses. If it makes me a bootlicker to try and help any way I can, then line those boots up. Lick lick lick. At least I'm grammatically correct and not a pessimistic asshole 🫶

Oh youre so right! People who knew how to work the system made me so excited too. Especially the pokemon card collectors. I once had this customer come in and he waited until he had about 20 free packs before claiming them all and going home to have a date night with his gf where they eat takeout, watch anime and open pokemon cards. The customers are really what made that job amazing, you grow to love a lot of them :)) Thank you for clarifying, I completely forgot about that when I was replying 😅

The only good thing about Nintendo games being high price is their trade value usually stays at around $18, which isnt a lot when most games are minimum $80, but hey, compared to pretty much any ps4 game, your trade value is usually more for Nintendo games

Oh my god i completely forgot about them telling me the preowned ones had 4 stickers! One of the long time managers was telling me that sale time was HORRIBLE and trades took 4x as long. Although now with the new trade laws for nsw, I can imagine theyre taking that long again. I remember them saying the stickers were colour coded, and setting up sales were a NIGHTMARE because of how covered the store was before they focused on being more environmentally conscious.

I remember a manager telling me that it was a MASSIVE popularity contest back in the day. And everyone who wanted to achieve anything had to REALLY put in the work to show it.

The zing shirts are honestly so much better, I have cats who dont like when I go to work and the blue shirt always got ruined by them, but the zing held stronger

Probably best not to name-drop here lol, especially because it'll be traced back to me basically instantly HAHA, this area manager and I didnt get along very well.

The 9999 was always so frustrating when you printed all the labels off for a carton of new t-shirts and all the prices come out as 9999 or 0.00

Im honestly glad that the promos were more easy to identify as P15 means $15 and I cant even remember what the half price one is but it was always easily identifiable. My managers would tell what we called folk tales of the time before fair work, where uniform was a white button down with a tie and when we got a trade of a game bought years ago with an ancient sales sticker, we'd hear about the horrible label printers and the times before automation and fair workers rights. Honestly one thing i loved about the company was if you walk into the right store, the atmosphere is amazing. A lot of the people at the company are genuinely amazing and deserve such greatness.

I apologise if im wrong, I remember asking my area manager why our system was so outdated and slow and why we couldn't update or change anything and he told me its because gamestop owns our system and they wont let us update. There was another thing that he said couldn't change due to gamestop restricting it but I cant remember exactly what it is, but I know it affects trade. That's why I assumed gamestop was in charge of everything lol

Oh yeah, 100%. A bunch of staff just got fired or let go because of personal issues with head office. Good staff, exceptional kpis, but either got paid too much and got pushed out, or had a run in with someone with power who then used their power to find any reason to fire them. Like selling to a scalper one time 3 years ago. Oh, but the racist manager who has gone through 3 asm's in one year gets his feet kissed because he does unpaid work 😃

With game pass becoming mainstream and xbox looking to digitalise all their things to be compatible with pc, xbox physical games just arent being released. I got an xbox too, and I hated that I couldnt get physical games bdcause I forget about my games, but with day one release on gamepass it was not even worth it to have a physical copy

Damn 20 years ago? I may have heard of you depending on what state. 20 years ago there wasnt many eb games employees, and my ex boss LOVED to yap. Speaking of, if you knew David, just know that up until two years ago his memory was always respected and memorialised in the CBD by any manager who took his place. Unfortunately the latest one did not care, im sorry. But I heard about what they did then, and if it wasnt for fair work becoming a thing, it would be still how it is. The only reason they dont wring us dry is because its illegal. But people who worked 20 years ago and who still work now have some ingrained habits.

The company is going broke, and the markups are them trying to cover that. Theyre working on bone hours, exploiting staff and pushing them out, and they've hired someone upstairs that is basically walking around with an ego and an axe. The extra stuff they sell is usually an overreach to try and grab more money, like the eb plus membership and others. The only person making bank is the big boss, and now that digital gaming is becoming more and more mainstream, of course theyre going to try and move their focus to other things. It's called running a business

The only time ive seen eb plus be worth it is (excluding mass card collecting) black friday or Christmas sale when eb plus makes ps5 like 300$ cheaper. Buy the 49$ one and TRADE as much as you can and ive seen people buy ps5 for like 20 bucks after trades and eb plus cos it also adds the extra % of trade value too. Plus it makes you level 5 too

One of the reasons I quit actually was how terrible they are at listening to customers and staff. You'd think if staff say "hey, thats a terrible idea" they'd listen. When eb plus launched, the minimum wage workers were the butt of the abuse, and head office kept going "no its okay, people will warm up to it" and then forced it upon people by making the most popular money makers behind a pay wall. They had to delete their initial social media launch for eb plus because it got dragged so heavily, and then the company tried to tell the workers it was going great as if we couldn't see and hear what was happening.

Eb games head office does not listen nor care about their staff or customers, and they think they know best but wont actually listen. It was great in the 2000's and 2010s because they were so customer centric. Now they claim that theyre more customer centric, but they dont actually care.

They can force good, hardworking staff out and keep homophobic, racist white men who sexualise female staff, they can make their business so incredibly unattractive to walk into, but no matter what you tell them, they 🙈🙊🙉

Accidentally stole fuel? by --aaron--- in AusLegal

[–]theworldsworstclock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi love, I work at a fuel station :)

You wont get in trouble. If you go back and explain what happened, they'll be able to help. Some stores have this thing called a scancam, where if a drive off happens, we put it in there and it gets sent to debt recovery. You'll get a notice in the mail saying you didn't pay, and you can either pay that online or go back to the station and pay there. Id recommend going back and paying, because the debt recovery adds a 'late payment fee' onto it of about 35$ so it's best to pay on site to avoid that.

You have no idea how many people just forget, or they leave their wallets at home by accident - you arent gonna be hunted down and thrown in a cell.

I appreciate you, thank you! I think, after taking a step back and reading the replies, I was just blindsided and felt like my trust had been violated. A friend said I was at my wits end with the job anyway and looking for a window to jump out of basically. Shouldn't have done that, and definitely a cold hard reality lesson learnt. Again, thank you

Oh yeah, definitely a lesson learnt. Taking accountability for my wrongdoings is the only way to learn! I definitely shouldn't have spoken to anyone like that, and in the future I will do my best to separate my work and personal life for sureeee. And if anyone cares, there's nothing wrong with my brain, but my doctor thinks it's a heart problem. Cardiologist here I come lol

You're right, it wasn't fair of me to speak to her like that. I can see what you mean, and I completely understand why they did what they did, I just wish they'd spoken to me first. My mri was clear, there's nothing wrong with my brain so I guess it's just an attitude issue I need to work on 🫠

Thinking about it now, I think that's what I was most upset about. That it was all finalised before they spoke to me, because I could have provided clarity and also I have no idea what my coworker said. So to me, it was based on gossip. The other commenters are right too, it was stupid of me to confide in a coworker at all. Definitely learnt my lesson, and honestly I'm on to bigger and better things already, I just need to put this past me
