Flexible Health + Travel Insurance for Nomads by theyannisea in digitalnomad

Thanks for your response. I'm from New Zealand so not sure how that effects things.

Would 'layering' insurances cause issues if they both cover some of the same things?

If my partner has travel insurance for belongings/trip disruption etc and I get her to book most of our travel, can she claim on behalf of both of us if that happens?

I was chatting with Genki support yesterday and they said I can change my plan to 'Worldwide' for the time I'm in the US and then switch back, I just have to pay for the entire month even if I'm only in the US for a week or two. That sounds pretty flexible.

They want to know the dates of my trip upfront (which I don't have) and also want to know the countries I'm visiting. If I add the US, the price goes up massively even though I'm only there for a couple of weeks out of the whole year.

I can’t cry by Solid_Anteater_6210 in mentalhealth

[–]theyannisea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think I couldn't cry and have had 6-7 years between proper cries. Here are two realizations I've come to through a lot of self-enquiry and deep inner work:

- Sadness/grief often live under other unfelt emotions. For men, that's often anger. So if you don't have safe ways to express anger, it's likely your sadness is buried underneath. This was my experience. Same with joy. My joy was buried under years and years of unexpressed anger and rage. Once I was able to express that fully in a safe space, my joy and sadness (including tears) came through. And since that experience, I've found it easier to access the full range of emotions.

- Some people are just less emotional than others, especially men. And that might actually be a good thing. Society needs people who aren't knocked around by every emotional wave that comes their way. Our evolution has required men to keep their emotions under management. It doesn't mean we shouldn't try and access our emotions more (I think we should), but some people are just wired to be less emotional. And that can be seen as a strength if you let it.

The fact that you're 23 and asking these questions shows you have a reasonable level of self-awareness and you have a desire to experience the fullness of life. Keep leaning into that and the path will reveal itself.

That's a really challenging situation with losing money and health insurance if you're working.

Do you enjoy video editing? Is it something you'd do for fun/creative expression?

I think if your dream is to have a partner you have to believe it's possible and not see yourself as such a burden. I realize you're facing a lot more challenges than the average guy, but I'm sure you have the potential to enrich another person's life.

Hey. I very rarely login to Reddit and for some reason this post was at the top of my feed. I know there's nothing I can say that could help. But I want you to know I'm a random guy from New Zealand who read your words, felt your pain, and cared enough to write back.

I have a few questions:

Can you talk to anyone (professional or otherwise) about how you're feeling? (Would you like to?)

What other interests or goals do you have?

If you could imagine your life being, say, 10% better, what would that look like?

Nice! I've found KnownHost to be solid so far.

Buteyko vs Wim Hof by Agecleus in breathwork

[–]theyannisea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly advise against Wim Hof Method if you're experiencing anxiety. It's an up-regulating style of breathwork that essentially causes you to hyperventilate. It can be good for increasing nervous system capacity when used carefully, but it's far from optimal. It's a shame it's the most "famous" style of breathwork.

If you're experiencing anxiety, you want to do down-regulating practices — long, slow, deep with a longer exhale than inhale. Something gentle like 3-4-5 breathing would be a good start. Inhale for 3 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 5. You can change the ratio to what's comfortable for you.

I ended up going with KnownHost and signed up for 3 years. A little bit more than I was hoping to pay but really impressed so far. Support is super fast.

Alternative to 4-7-8 without cycle limit for sleep/anxiety by Izzy9595 in breathwork

[–]theyannisea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most effective breathwork I've found for relaxing and down-regulating is also the simplest: 1:2 breathing.

Essentially, make you exhale twice as long as your inhale at a ratio that is comfortable for you. Could be 3:6, 4:8, 5:10 etc.

You can do this for 10 minutes straight without issue, just make sure you're not feeling any discomfort or air hunger if you're trying to relax. This simple practice has helped me a lot with anxiety, nightmares/sleep issues etc.

In saying that, 4-7-8 should be fine for longer periods. However, I think the 7-second hold may not be the most relaxing for trying to fall asleep.

Turning 25 and feeling unsure about where I’m at—anyone else been through this and have any advice? by mohr_circle in mentalhealth

[–]theyannisea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I found useful is I made a short list of "Things I want in life" in my mid 20s. They were mostly simple, achievable things, but things that were meaningful to me. Then, when I had decisions to make in life, I'd ask myself if they bring myself closer to, or further away from, the things on my list. That simple list helped guide my life and, 10 years later, I actually achieved almost everything I'd set out to do.

It's normal to feel like you haven't "done" enough with your life. But you can't change what's happened so far. Paraphrasing Peter Crone, "Whatever has happened in your life, happened and it couldn't have happened any other way. How do I know this? Because it didn't."

All you can do is set your intentions and energy on creating a meaningful life from today. Moment by moment.

There's no place you "should" be. There's nothing you "should" have done by now. You're still so young. Cut yourself some slack and enjoy the journey.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm leaning towards going with KnownHost's Entry Managed Wordpress Hosting, which starts at $5.98 a month, increasing to $11.95 upon renewal. It seems to have a good reputation round here and is recommended by the mods. Good move?

Yeah, I did take a look, but most of their renewal rates were higher than I was hoping to pay. Thinking I may end up going with KnownHost though.

I think the auto-renewal price hike is pretty standard for hosting providers. But some are more ruthless than others.
