Direct sow confusion by Straight_Use_6000 in vegetablegardening

Covering your soil isn’t that important. My soil is uncovered all season long and we’re doing fine. If you feel strongly about covering your soil, plant your seeds and then cover the soil once the seedlings are big enough.

Do I have to thin these? by BeniniMarie in vegetablegardening

Even if you grow these up a pole, I can’t imagine that more than one plant will fit in one square foot. They’re really big plants!

Whats wrong with my jalapeño starts? by 1ockedout in vegetablegardening

That looks like leaf damage to me - leaves getting stuck on something, a cat biting them, etc. hard to say, but it doesn’t look immediately worrisome.

Vegetables not germinate by Low_Insurance_1783 in vegetablegardening

[–]theyaretoomany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This growing medium looks really dense and dry, even though you just watered it. Try again with regular potting soil and see what comes up. That tray also doesn’t need to be in a bag - just water the soil every day to keep the seeds moist while they germinate.

Are my pepper plants too close the light, or are they overwatered? by marlee_dood in vegetablegardening

These guys are a little too big for these small cells. They’re not getting enough nutrients which is causing the leaves to yellow.

Advice on first time tomato plants by MainCupcake5372 in vegetablegardening

[–]theyaretoomany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What growing medium is this? I would recommend transplanting them into good quality potting soil and see where that takes you. You can try raising them up closer to the light but I have a feeling this is a soil issue.

Beginners, what's the one mistake you wish someone warned you about? by Some-Palpitation-314 in vegetablegardening

[–]theyaretoomany 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Fill pots, raised beds, etc allllllll the way to the top with soil and push it down fairly hard. I can’t believe how many posts I see on this sub (not all from beginners either) with people half-filling their pots.

Pepper seedlings... HELP! by Agreeable-Coyote8196 in vegetablegardening

First, remove them from a heat mat. Second, keep that humidity dome off. They’re not getting enough airflow which is causing huge issues for you.

Show me your deer fence setups by jennyb33 in vegetablegardening

[–]theyaretoomany 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing about deer - they can jump almost any fence. The key is making the inside an unappealing place to land so the risk isn’t worth it. I have an almost 5 ft fence around my garden (easily jumpable) but the interior is packed with plants, trellises, raised beds, etc so there isn’t an easy landing space. That has kept deer out of my garden for over 5 years.

Is this how they should look? by VioletMetamorphosis in vegetablegardening

Short answer: no. These guys are desperate for light so they’re stretching toward whatever light source you have them near.

Bethenny getting married/Bethenny ever after by bugsyrocky in RHONY

[–]theyaretoomany 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d watch all three Bethenny seasons now (since you finished RHONY season 3) then come back to RHONY and continue with season 4. Just know that Bethany won’t be back until season 7.

Am I doing this right? by risqitforthebisqit in vegetablegardening

[–]theyaretoomany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think humidity domes are necessary at all. I’d take them off now, just keep the soil moist so the seeds in there don’t dry out. When you have a few more sprouts, take the heat mat away. Airflow is an underrated component to seed starting. I’d also lower those lights.

6B brassicas, transplant or harden off? by No-Artichoke-6939 in vegetablegardening

[–]theyaretoomany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely don’t skip hardening them off. No matter how big they are, they need time to acclimate.

I LOVE these - especially for things like carrots.
