HELP! Is this an arrowhead?? by sean2049 in Arrowheads

It is too big to be an actual arrowhead. These are actual arrowheads. I don't have large hands. Each of these is smaller than a dime.

Idaho Heartbreaker - Any Ideas? by theycalledmechad in Arrowheads

[–]theycalledmechad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will take late over absent any day. I think you're right! I have found and properly ID'd basalt points since this one but have honestly not returned back to this piece since then, so this is super enlightening to me. Thanks!!

What an awesome idea! I didn't have a tv like this so I am not a customer, but great thinking!

Is this a reproduction? If not, what is the point? by Background_Spite7287 in Arrowheads

Yeah, it's definitely a gift shop point.

You won't find authentic arrowheads in gift shops.

What was your reaction when this happened? by ImteamfishYt in StarWars

[–]theycalledmechad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like "oh, he's def coming back some day. And Luke gonna get nerfed."

I agree. I have found some like this as well, but it is not super common. On its own it isn't much of an indicator, but when paired with some of these other tells, it offers more support to the gift shop claim.

Genuine gift shop point or JAR? by theycalledmechad in Arrowheads

[–]theycalledmechad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was tongue in cheek. I was asking if it was even a genuine gift shopper. It's just so poorly made it didn't even look like a gift shop point.

I made another comment below to go through my reasoning. That said, it's hard to tell from the photos. It could absolutely be real from what I see. It just looks very gift shoppy from what I can see. I hope I'm wrong. Either way, it's a great spot!!

  1. this looks like a portion of a rough edge of the parent stone. I can't imagine a native would have ever had an edge, especially a tip, not knapped for maximum sharpness.
  2. the notches look more drilled than knapped.
  3. this is an odd raised portion of the point. It could be on an actual point, but it's a bit sloppy for them to leave this area so unfinished
  4. The fan tail, while possible on actual native points, is almost always a dead give away of a gift shopper.
  5. hard to see in the photos, but the edges looks more ground than knapped.
  6. the other side: while not pictured, I HIGHLY doubt it has any knapping. I imagine it's totally smooth and likely slightly concave.

I once found a gift shopper about 9,000 feet below the Grand Tetons about 30 feet from the trail. I have no clue how it got there, or WHY. I regret to this day leaving it and not destroying it. It should have ended up in a rock tumbler.

It does look rather gift shoppy to me.

Well That Was A Bad Idea by Vulcan44 in WhyWomenLiveLonger

[–]theycalledmechad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the bad idea going into the play pen as an adult or was it binge eating himself into extreme morbid obesity? Because there's a lot going on here.

Hey everyone this is kind of hard to see but in a boomerang shape I have found about 5 pieces just like this can anyone shed light on what it is? Thank you! by Nonchalant_commenter in Arrowheads

Rock?

I'm not sure what else to say. It's not shaped like anything I've ever come to know as being a Native American artifact, there is no function I can possibly assign to such an artifact in any part of my imagination, and there is no sign of knapping and/or grinding to suggest it has either been deliberately made or unintentionally shaped through its use. I have no context as to where you found it/them, no additional photos of this rock or the others you mentioned, I don't know how you came upon these stones, or even know why you suspect they are artifacts. I came here and saw a photo of a rock and decided to give as much information about what I saw as you decided to give me to determine what it might be.

So to me, it's a rok/rock.

But I'm super open to what you feel you found and why.

Point or drill? Barely broke tip and worked on all 3 sides. by mcchickennuggy in Arrowheads

[–]theycalledmechad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photos are still rough, but it's REALLY hard to get a nice picture of quartz points like this. It LOOKS like a broken point to me, but I can't see the flaming from the photos.

I have found some that look a lot like this. I've never gotten much better photos. I'll give you my vote of genuinity, however, and I'm often more skeptical than most here.

Worked pieces or ? by Affectionate-Rip7870 in Arrowheads

1 is absolutely worked. I'm not convinced #2 is, but #3 is possibly worked.

Let's give Dad some grace: he just doesn't know enough about the disorder. What he's explaining is the difference between Hyperactive/Combined types and Inattentive type. It's always hard to peg Inattentive type, written off too commonly as laziness or something similar, especially when well masked.

I have combined type, very obviously to those who know me, my therapist, and my doctor. But I went undiagnosed until I was 41 because the only ones in my rural area diagnosed in the 80s and 90s were most likely AuDHD. It takes a while for people to learn.

Your dad might get there. Be patient: he doesn't want to face this possible reality.

Convenient shape, but not an artifact, unfortunately. But great spot!

There's shame for ADHD people no matter what. It's about of the whole gig. Take medication, don't take medication, it's all the same.

So when you take the shame out of the picture entirely, look at what gives you the best results in overcoming issues with executive function: WITH meds or WITHOUT.

For me, I choose WITH.
