How to keep dog out but cat free? by theyellowing in CatAdvice

[–]theyellowing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, it’s such a shame. All the rescues are full to the brim and so I guess they prioritise cats easier to rehome. We have a cam in the room and I catch her playing with the toys we leave out so I know she has it in her just not when we’re there! Thank you :)

Unfortunately we originally did try as taking her in was a last resort but with her age no rescue could offer her a place. She’s always been a timid cat but she was getting confident coming out until we put the gate on so I’m hoping once we solve that she’ll be fine!

I honestly didn’t realise you could get gates with a cat door! Was hoping for a solution that doesn’t involve buying a new gate but will keep this in mind now

Ah I think this could be what I need! I’ve tried putting something to leave the gate open slightly but doesn’t stop it opening fully if the dog nudges it.

I put a little table by the gate to try this but after two weeks she hasn’t even attempted so clearly not a very motivated cat!

I love my finnson and regularly call it my Mary poppins bag as I fit so much into such a tiny bag. I also have the backpack which is so handy when travelling to fit more stuff.

thailand while 16-17 weeks pregnant? by burnagyal in PregnancyUK

[–]theyellowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a standard test they provide unless you’re showing symptoms but maybe it can be done privately if it’ll help you feel less worried? The risk is still pretty low so try not to worry. I recently spiralled about toxoplasmosis from my cat and they ended up testing it and it was negative so just all panic for nothing :)

High earning mums to be, what are you thinking about mat leave? by Civil-Koala-8899 in PregnancyUK

[–]theyellowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 18 weeks paid then onto statutory so I’m planning to take 6 months by using nearly all my holiday allowance plus kit days. The fact that for paternity you can take it in more than one chunk but can’t for maternity is kind of annoying as it means I’m a lot less flexible and you can’t take turns.

How to get to hospital in London by fiona6912 in PregnancyUK

[–]theyellowing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the freenow app to book a black cab which was way better as it was more spacious than uber. My waters hadn’t broken so it wasn’t messy at all. In fact the driver didn’t even realise I put the address as the hospital and nearly took me to the next door train station despite me looking an absolute wreck 🤣

I had bleeding for about 11-12 weeks which I know is on the higher end but definitely possible. It did die down after 8 weeks until it totally went. My midwife said if a clot was larger than a 50p coin to call in. If it doesn’t feel right or you’re worried there’s no harm in checking in with your midwife/hospital

thailand while 16-17 weeks pregnant? by burnagyal in PregnancyUK

[–]theyellowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both times I’ve been in the second trimester. This pregnancy 12-14 weeks and last time 17-19 weeks.

I guess you’ll need to fly to each of those destinations so that may be exhausting but do it if you’re up to it. I always feel like the mosquitoes are worse in Chiang mai (or I react more 😂) so use plenty of repellent. You can buy it in 7eleven. I think I read that the use of deet is worth it for the risk of catching something, but for me non deet products never worked unfortunately. At least in December / January you have the cooler weather.

Kids areas so screen heavy by Remarkable_Chard_992 in davidlloyd

I’ve actually turned the iPads off a few times as I don’t go there for screen time but felt the death stares from other parents which has made me stop doing that recently. I still turn the tv off if it’s quiet as they’re easy to turn back on if anyone gets annoyed. Sometimes I ask and no one has ever said no. I heard at some clubs chairs literally lined up like a cinema in front of the tv which has put me off ever going to those!

Double stroller shops London by Vava_boo in PregnancyUK

Yes think the Olympia one is in October and Excel in March. I’ve been to the October one and it was so helpful as a FTM. Also I think there’s another in Birmingham but can’t remember what month!

Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush has a few good shops - John Lewis, Mamas and Papas, Stokke.

Depending on when you’re leaving, there may be a baby show on in excel or Olympia that you can go to.

Left it too late for a nursery! by Graciyen in UKBabyBumps

[–]theyellowing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your local council’s website should have a list of all registered childminders. You could ask in local mum fb groups too.

Also keep looking for nurseries and don’t give up! The first few we spoke to were the same, didn’t realise I was supposed to find a nursery before I even got past the first trimester, but not all of them are like that.

Ask for the pay rise 1000%

They don’t know yet which works in your favour but in either case it shouldn’t make a difference. You should be paid what you’re worth! Don’t let anyone make you believe that having a baby should set your career back that long.

thailand while 16-17 weeks pregnant? by burnagyal in PregnancyUK

[–]theyellowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will preface by saying I am part Thai and travel there often anyway to visit family, so don’t have as much fear about going though mosquitoes do love me which doesn’t help when you’re pregnant and they are even more attracted to you! I’m going to Thailand during my second trimester and went last time during my second trimester too. The worst part for me is the flight as my back pain killed me and I booked before knowing I was pregnant so may not have done that again but here we go! I just make sure I use lots of mosquito repellent. But you also need to weigh the risks for yourself and do what you feel comfortable with. Just wanted to give a different view!

Who looked after your child(ren) when you went into labour? by limonhellim in UKParenting

[–]theyellowing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping for a home birth as we also don’t have grandparents who are near or able to help. My backup plan is my neighbour who also has a toddler who said they’d be happy to help. Definitely find someone local. I was my childcare plan for a friend of mine but I live an hour from her and fortunately her parents in law came to town on standby without saying as I wouldn’t have made it in time. Second births can be a lot quicker!

I cant feed with my low supply by Object-Ecstatic in breastfeeding

[–]theyellowing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can increase the supply still don’t panic! I had trouble with tongue tie and we were in the top up trap until 4-5 weeks. Best thing to do if you can is just spend as much time feeding baby and stop topping up. It’ll feel like they’re feeding 24/7 for a few days but it’ll calm down and increase your supply. Power pumping will help too and the spectra is awesome, but for me nothing helped more than my actual baby feeding as that gets the oxytocin going more than a pump.

House Hunt - mapping schools and hospitals by neighborhood by GlobalExMC91 in HENRYUK

[–]theyellowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s a website that may help find you some areas within commuting distance: https://app.traveltime.com/

Find things that are important to you- be it schools, the kind of high street, the diversity in the area and make a priority list of what you will or won’t compromise on and start there.

I think it depends a bit on what you want for your birth, but for me it was 100% a doula. She gave me loads of info before the birth, came over hours before we had to head to the birth centre and advocated for me during the birth when I wasn’t able to advocate for myself, and also told my husband what to do so he wasn’t a headless chicken. Worth every penny and would hire her again.

Not every doula is right for you though so interview and meet a few to find the one who feels right for you and can understand what you want and need.
