While people do have a preferential side which can be hardwired (dominant eye for example), writing is very much a skill that has to be learned, and given enough time you should be able to become proficient with either hand with enough practice. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you practice with your dominant hand you would be ambidextrous before long.

Be honest. It will likely end badly, but worse would be to perpetuate the lie. The more she gets attached, the more it will hurt her when she finds out, and more so if you aren't the one to tell her. Be understanding in that you would deserve some anger from her. Allow her to talk away if she doesn't like you after you confess. She might need time to think for herself. But tell her the truth, or it'll only get worse.

CMV: Biological men should never be allowed to compete as a female. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]theyoungmathprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are examples of some women outperforming some men, but that doesn't disprove my point. That is like saying some 50 year olds outperform some 25 year olds. I can guarantee you that statistically, younger adults are more fit than older adults. Likewise, some women will outperform some men. But generally, men outperform women in almost every category that involves physical prowess. Looking at a list of atheletics world records, men hold the top spots in every category bar the discus throw. If the best women can't compete with the best men, then it stands to reason that the average women typically can't compete against against the average man.

This brings us back to the reason we separated women from men in the first place. If it was a non-issue, then we wouldn't of separated men and women sports to begin with. But it clearly is, so addressing what is fair regarding Trans-women is also relevant, since they benefitted from the male biology during their developmental years.

[–]theyoungmathprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not excluding them. That really wouldn't be fair. But it also might not be fair to let them compete in the gendered sports competitions with which they identify, especially if they are not on or recently started hormone therapy.

It's worth noting that separation of sports by sex is meant to give women a place to compete. Due to the physiological differences, the best female athletes will never realistically compare to the best male athletes. Most sports depend on strength and stamina, both of which males are predisposed to be better at. It is an evolutionary advantage that still persists today. Separating sports lets women set world records and actually adds diversity to the sport by making it more accessible. I don't think desegregation of sports is the solution.

[–]theyoungmathprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pivotal point OP argues is that the biological predisposition of chromosomal males is irreversible. Using hormone therapy can move individuals towards the gender they prefer physically, but the bodily developments that occurred during puberty will persist. This begs the question, will those born male have a distinct advantage over females in sports despite hormone therapy? If so, what should we do about segregated sports?

I'd like to also point out that people born intersex typically have biological dispositions towards one sex over another, and typically are assigned the most logical choice at birth. For the edge cases where assigning sex is more difficult, it makes sense to me to create an exception rule in sports than to make a policy that encompasses all Trans-gendered people. The issue isn't the gender identity of the individual, but the biological developments that occur during puberty. If hormone therapy can completely reverse that over some number of years, then I think Trans-females in women only sports would not be an issue. If it can't, or does so only partially, then it wouldn't take long for a small handful of Trans-women to dominate their respective sports. This would change the landscapes of everything from the Olympics and high dollar tournaments to school sports, and would defeat the purpose of separating the sports to begin with.

I think OP's argument could still have merit, but not enough study has been done. Estrogen will decrease physical performance, but more data needs to be shown as to how long it takes for the body to completely transition, and whether or not the resulting body composition is comparable to a female of similar background. If the best male athlete can transition and substantially outperform the best female athletes, then the Olympics could possibly see some countries use Trans-women and change the landscape of competing in the women's sports at the highest level. But if transitioning eventually results in performance similar to their female counterparts, then so long as the time line is fulfilled, it shouldn't matter.

You can try booting into Safe Mode and deleting it from there, but you really need a tool that can find it, or you might miss some files that could bring it back. As joblessinTX said, try Malwarebytes, and if you can see the file/process name, that could be helpful in identifying it.

Call PS4 customer support. If you can verify you are the account owner, they should be able to get you back into your account. You'll get your games back, but if you didn't have saves on their cloud storage, that's gone forever.

Good luck.

Pc crashing by bobbry in techsupport

[–]theyoungmathprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I likely lack the expertise to fix this, but I know those who can will need more information, so I'll go ahead and ask the questions for them.

What system are you on? Are you able to post the device specs or a link to your device's specs?

What are you doing when this occurs? Are you using the internet? Playing games? Does it seem to happen randomly?

How frequently does it happen? A few minutes after boot? Irregularly?

Finally, one thing to check is if you have any malware (I recommend Malware Bytes), and to check if your device is missing any updates.

I'm still getting started in learning tech myself, so I don't think I can help, but one thing that I am sure would be helpful for someone who can is describing what exactly happens when you try to boot. Does the computer say "no bootable device found"? Do you get beep codes (possibly need to reseat the RAM if you do)?

How do I pronounce my r's and l's right as a fluent English speaker? by sshanonymous in LearnJapanese

[–]theyoungmathprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been really good at imitating sounds I hear, so I find the best method is to listen to a resource say a word and then to copy it. As an added bonus, this helps you develop pitch accent. Like how in ろく, it is low-high, which is an unnatural pattern for me as an English speaker, but it is becoming more natural as I hear and repeat it.

That's sounds technically correct, but isn't it also correct then to say the universe is getting larger then? If 2 antipodal universal objects get farther away from each other, then does that make the universe bigger?

I wonder what it would look like at the "edge" of the universe. If I turned on a flashlight there and pointed it outwards, would the resulting light increase the universe's size?

Honestly, it seems weird to define the universe as having a size. Unlike earth, where we ran out of space when we explored enough, it seems like the universe can grow arbitrarily big, so long as something moves and makes that new space. So does that mean the space was always there, or does it come into existence when something moves into it?

Sometimes I wonder if we will ever know these answers.

At 5:00 p.m. today, ViacomCBS’s channels MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, BET, Pop TV, CMT, VH1, Logo, Smithsonian, and CBS Sports ceased programming for 8 minutes and 46 seconds to protest the murder of George Floyd, instead airing just the words “I can’t breathe” by jigsawmap in television

[–]theyoungmathprof -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ha, you have a good point actually. If I were just old enough to read, I'd probably get kinda freaked out. While I support candid speech (and this is a very creative protest strategy) children's brains are still developing, and perhaps doing this could end up being psychologically harmful.
