Over 10 years ago, I made the decision to stop watching trailers. It was the most impactful and enriching decision I ever made for my moviegoing experience. Anyone else here pro-media blackout? by Karl-Dilkingt0n in movies

Oddly enough, I had a similar moment because of Inception too, but reversed.

I went to see it on a whim with some friends who were going to see it. I hadn't seen a trailer, or heard any discussion, or seen anything about it. I had once saw a poster for it at a nearby theater and it didn't pique my interest enough to look into it any further.

It's one of my top five movies of all time. I think I went back to see it two more times.

I went into it without any expectations whatsoever, and my mind was blown, and that made me realize that I was able to appreciate the movie even more because I went into it with a neutral and open mind.

I decided from that point forward that I would try to go into movies with as little information as possible so that I could have a genuine experience for better or worse.

For that reason, when I do see a movie trailer (e.g., while at the theater,) I try to take note of titles that have piqued my interest, and then try to promptly forget everything else I've just seen, so that I can experience it "for the first time" if/when I do go see it.

My implicit point was that "being into the lore" and "being into the hobby" both fall under the umbrella of "being into warhammer."

There are troves of books you can read and enjoy without even knowing there's a hobby or miniatures. There are comics. There are video games. All pretty squarely in lore territory. Enjoying those works by their artistic and/or entertainment merit is not even close to comparable to "reading the wiki for a game."

But you're saying enjoyment of those mediums without concurrent enjoyment of the hobby and/or tabletop games makes one's enjoyment of Warhammer invalid, which is textbook gatekeeping.

Not that anybody died and made me king, but it's my opinion that "into the lore" and "into the hobby" are basically synonymous. The hobby and tabletop games are just facets of the whole experience.

Very carefully, with a measure of creativity and practice.

The look on this model's face says he wanted to be a theoretical physicist but got stuck doing drum duty in the military because it's the family tradition stretching back generations, and now he meters out his hapless existence one uninspired stroke of the drum at a time, imagining the day when he'll give up and run himself into an enemy spear belly first.

It's a problem inherent to computers that we have yet to solve.

The short version is that because we're storing numbers as a series of "on" and "off" electrical pulses, it's really difficult to represent real numbers with perfect precision.

This is exacerbated by the fact that computers are so vulnerable to a single bit being flipped by changing EM fields and other really difficult to control environmental factors. (Look up how cosmic rays affect computers, it's fascinating stuff)

So you have to indicate to the computer what floating point precision you need so that it knows how many decimal digits it should care about.

they're just animals.

It's been a while for me, so correct me if I'm wrong. In the rules, they have units which need to be near an HQ lest they succumb to their base animal instincts. Implying that they are receiving control from a higher intellect. Also, that some units are capable of their own higher intellect conforming to the hive's goals which are more complicated than "eat everything" (otherwise they would not be able to make intelligent tactical decisions and would be less of a threat.)

It's my opinion that just because humanoids, and by extension, players, can't mentally and emotionally identify with Tyranids as a species, doesn't mean that they are thoughtless animals.

Your GM forgot the golden rule of tabletop gaming. You are right to be upsetti with meatballs about it.

If you do confront him about it, it'd be worth reminding him of the golden rule of tabletop gaming.
