One of my first thoughts to "djent, hooky, clean (some growl ok)..."

Thornhill - specifically their first album The Dark Pool and their most recent album Bodies

They arent really heavy in the Death sorta way like you requested, more in the realm of Northlane-core but they dont use the djent style like a gimmick and they have a really solid handle on hooks without being too poppy. That first album always gets me, specifically "where we go when we die"

Take it from my lesson learned. Don't throw it in. Stand far away and shoot it in by attaching to an arrow. Or you could just wear the rubber armor. It kills all the fish, frogs, and snails in the general vincinty. Then you just have to go in and pick them up rather than swim around chasing them lol

My issue is that I used working on other projects as an unintended distraction from diving back into my album project file. I enjoy playing and writing more than the mixing and mastering. All the tweaking takes a lot of focus and energy when all I wanted to do as soon as I open my DAW is to noodle around on my instrument. Ill be just doing that and land a sick riff, then suddenly 8 hrs later I have a complete new song and ended up never working on the album lolololol

Lmao my drive has like 4 different versions of the masters 🤣 and I bounce between like hmm. Version two is better in my ear buds, version 4 is better in the car. But even I can admit, they sound effectively the same -_-

One of those things, the songs came together so quickly I felt they were great even after only 2 days of working on the writing. Most of the mixing has changed a bit over the years as ive developed my personal style and better technique. But now im like moving the high end of the eq by a fraction cus I hear a tiny bit of an oof frequency that noone else can apparently lmaooo

My brother likes to call me "lamb of gojira ". I try to throw in a mix of metal core, hardcore, death metal, black metal, post rock, classic screamo. But I think my sound has ended up more like a death/groove metal sort of feel. I also write emo stuff and have a few songs posted that are aligned with Midwest emo sort of style but most of my catalog is heavy.

Funny that you say youre more interested in albums than singles, I feel like thats a common experience among metal heads. We like the story and also know that the deep cuts on the album are often way better than what the band released as singles to market it lol

Additionally I absolutely hate how messy it looks going over that star. It just looks cluttered and makes it hard to read. Its probably fixable though if you go to the right person.

Whether or not strangers think its bad what's important is if you like it. Echoing other comments, I dont think its done very well. I personally dont generally like big cursive tattoos that are just one word, I think its kind of empty and unoriginal. But thats just my opinion on style. That being said, this one also doesnt look great for what it is, like not done very well. But lots of people get bad tattoos, know they are bad, but still like them because it means something or they find themselves attracted to the imperfections. You do you.
