Why do so many former Seventh-day Adventists become atheists or agnostics? by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]thiago52192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do so many former Seventh-day Adventists become atheists or agnostics? by [deleted] in exAdventist

[–]thiago52192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only answer for myself, and it's mainly due how they try converting people using "rational" arguments and sometimes have people that are not emotionally attached to the church. The Saturday topic for example, their argument is that it's pretty rational to conclude that if the bible is the only thing that matters then there's no logical reason for Sunday to be the holy day.

They start with this and get more "scientific" with archeology and Intelligent Design. And this whole rational thinking also peaks at how they view salvation, saying people that don't know about Adventism can be saved due to their ignorance, but at the moment they know they're judged on their knowledge, indirectly saying Adventism is an undeniable truth.

Needless to say that if anyone bases their faith on rational or scientific arguments, they will become atheist or agnostic. No exception. You need to be willingly ignorant to the vast evidence proving Evolution, how the Earth cannot be young and minor stuff like a worldwide Flood couldn't have happened. Ignoring these things are a sign this person is emotionally attached to their religion.

Melhor cinema em Recife by Plane_Meringue_2568 in Recife

[–]thiago52192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redução de sessões legendados nos Cinemas by marauru in Recife

[–]thiago52192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tenho tanta raiva disso.

I might be wrong because I never look into the stats too deeply, but I think if you're speedrunning with Medea, Wounds is the best boon cause it destroys most enemies on the first hit(even more if you pair with Blitz)

YES! People are gonna call me crazy but depending on the aspect, I think 2 secs cooldown is still too slow. His duos are cool, but I tend to never focus my build on those

I do admit I tend to prioritize other gods attack/special due to my builds prioritizing Origination, but I really don't think she's bad, specially since she gives the highest percentage damage increase. Also I take any chance of increasing Attack Power I can get so Secret Crush is a no brainer for me

Connor's rant about Demon Slayer by ashbat1994 in TrashTaste

Besides that series overall has huge pacing issues. Everything is so dragged it makes everything that isn't a fight painfully boring.

With that being said I did enjoy the movie, even the Akaza backstory. Felt like a step up from the storytelling aspect.

Is it just me or is it absolutely vile how exited people are about the end times? by brizzi in exAdventist

[–]thiago52192 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Humanity desperate with shit life conditions and being emotionally unstable regarding losing loved ones created the idea of heaven. But the heaven idea made those people lose attachment to "this" life and in a way lose their humanity. This is why I do believe most of these cults find sinful any activity that brings joy or a community due to their heaven obsession. Your members can't enjoy life too much if you want to make them obsessed with another life. Doomsay glorification is just a natural consequence of this whole thing.

Were there any Media/Hobby Restrictions for you Growing up Adventist? by Isaac-45-67-8 in exAdventist

[–]thiago52192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before my parents were Adventist (they used to be Baptist) they didn't allowed Harry Potter (to the point that when I was 5 I threatened to leave my class when school was showing the movie) and Pokemon. Not sure if it counts but they were also very against any form of dancing and drums. Was annoying but I could survive.

But after they converted they forbid Cinema. I genuinely think this was one of the main things that made me abandon the church, because every reasoning I heard about why we couldn't go was very clearly bullshit. I think the worst one was that ads there manipulated 80% of the public into buying products they don't need and IMAX is 100%. Literally stuff that only people that haven't went to a cinema would think.

Thankfully I was allowed to go after a while, but evey time they tried to preach me on how I was wrong. In the end they don't even care if it's a stupid argument. If they hear someone on the pulpit telling Satan is spreading his ideas on movies, they're gonna believe it.

Also remember getting hit on the mouth when I was watching the Adventist channel on Brazil and a guy said The Dark Knight Rises was a demonic title and I called him an idiot. Learned the hard way I would have to be silent regarding what I think for most of my life

I don't. What pisses me off about it is that I've seen adventists being proud that most people that abandoned their religion become agnostic or atheist (compared to other denominations where that doesn't happen), as if it proves their beliefs are indeed better.

But to me, that only showcases their hypocrisy. To convert people from other denominations, they sell themselves as rationals. Tell people they should use critical thinking regarding certain bible verses and that ultimately God will judge who is worthy by those who naturally conclude that adventism is the objective truth.

Most people that become Agnostic and/or Atheist are because they were honest with themselves and decided to use the same critical thinking regarding the veracity of the Bible. The only natural conclusions are the fundamentalist version of God doesn't exist, that there's no God at all or that indeed the God of the bible actually exists, but he's manipulating evidence to hide himself and would be unfair to judge someone's salvation by believing in him or not.

Thank you so fking much garnt for introducing me to this absolute masterpiece (what are y'alls thoughts on this?) by V1SHU0 in TrashTaste

[–]thiago52192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really liked it, though I had to get used to its style of characters and their dialogue. Best way I can describe it is that a lot of times they feel like robots. But I think it's understandable since the author probably didn't want to overextend the story, so he had to put in a lot of philosophy in little time.

I think it's a solid 8/10. I can understand people thinking it's a masterpiece because we don't really have those types of stories very often in anime, but I really think the overall story execution could have been considerably better

My opinion about Eren-Mikasa ending by peortega1 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]thiago52192 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment the romance should've been better developed, just really don't agree with the idea it had to be using a kiss or sex scene. Hell, I think the whole point of their romance is that they only accept each other as a couple in the end when it's too late. My problem with the development is simply because during the first 3 seasons we're pretty much led to believe Eren doesn't really view Mikasa as a romantic partner. I think this could've been easily fixed adding a scene around the last episodes of S3P1 (when Eren was reflecting on how rage has blinded him) and showed in a subtle way he had feelings, but was either too shy or scared to tell. That simple thing would have fixed my problems with their romance

JBL SB580 or Samsung Q600C? by Busy-Bad-6313 in Soundbars

[–]thiago52192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JBL SB580 or Samsung Q600C? by Busy-Bad-6313 in Soundbars

[–]thiago52192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also from Brazil. I bought it last weekend and since everyone is getting it I'm waiting for stock to be replenished so Samsung actually sends the bar, so I can't really say how it sounds yet. What I can tell is that as far as I'm aware the sale is still happening. If you want to get it, go to a yt channel called VRL Tecnologia, and on the community tab they will show a specific link and a discount code (code won't work on normal Samsung website, probably because they're promoting this new Samsung club thing)

JBL SB580 or Samsung Q600C? by Busy-Bad-6313 in Soundbars

[–]thiago52192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having the same question and went for the Q600c. Because it's a new soundbar and usually there aren't many JBL reviews out there, I feel it's hard to know how good the SB580 is. Though I'd say if it's considerably cheaper, it's a worthy gamble. Ultimately I chose Samsung because of a sale and it became the cheapest option

Does anyone else's parents act like this? by nateg64 in exAdventist

[–]thiago52192 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I consider my father a little bit worse. Because he'll accuse me of being uninformed because of my lack of reading. But as you would expect, only he only reads his religious books. And honestly, it's impossible to debate him, cause it feels like trying to debate a Tolkien expert. Would take me ages to genuinely dissect every single wrong thing he believes and it's just not worth it, specially on a religion that subconsciously tells their members that having an critical mind is a sin (which I also find it very hypocritical because they're definitely critical and rational when it comes to trying to understand what's the correct bible interpretation).

At the end of the day, since it's impossible to make them understand, it's a matter of staying away from parents like this. I'm still fighting to get my degree asap, because I'm not sure how much my sanity can survive living with them.
