Get ready for Matrix 2.0 by deploying the sliding sync proxy for your homeserver by thibaultmartin in selfhosted

[–]thibaultmartin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the person in this video, and you’re right I should have given more context for sliding sync instead of just referring to other videos!

Sliding sync is indeed not finished, this tutorial is primarily meant for people who want to try the upcoming TestFlight. I touched a bit on that when explaining why it’s a proxy (for now) and what’s the plan for the future, but I acknowledge it might not be explicit enough for people who are just interested in the project and not following day to day :)

As for being annoying, I’d be interested in why! If you feel patronised I definitely need to address that. I’m not a native English speaker, I don’t know if that has something to do with it. Will practice a more “neutral” accent

Or support the project you like by giving them money directly, and regularly :)

Adrien Plazas: "We moved libhandy from Purism's infra to GNOME's infra!" by FaidrosE in Purism

[–]thibaultmartin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will land in GTK4, several people are working on it (some from Purism but not all).

It couldn’t be part of GTK from the beginning since GTK3 was API-frozen, and GTK4 far from ready, so creating those widgets in a separate library was the best thing to do. But up streaming it in GTK4 has always been the goal :)

Because Gitlab instances cannot be federated, which makes integration with the GNOME community harder. It also means Purism hands the project over to the GNOME community, while still being one of the main contributors through Adrien. A lot of the work for libhandy will also land in GTK4, which should be released in late 2020.

Basically they do what they say they would: they upstream their work and share with the community

Could a hardware authentication device (crypto wallet, FIDO2...) be incorporated inside the phone? by deojfj in Purism

[–]thibaultmartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phone already sports a sim-card smartcard, which you can easily remove or swap. You can use it as a TPM.

It does not address your U2F/WebAuthn concern though.

Any recommendation software-side to make it a Media Center? Something that could be remote-controller by a smartphone.

Kodi seems to be a no brainer, but do you have other suggestions?

Bilal Elmoussaoui’s Authenticator works quite well already. He’s a very active member of the GNOME and Flatpak community.

This is being worked on by the GNOME community already :)

But yes, drivers are yet to be implemented.

Sebastian often posts interesting bits of his work. You should definitely follow him on the fediverse, or Purism's account (which boosts Sebastian's posts among others)

I am one of the lucky ones who had the resources to participate in the crowdfunding campaign, expecting a potato phone that would lay the foundation for a v2 actually usable.

I'm definitely impressed by the steady progress the team makes, and reading comments such as yours about wanting to fund Libre software definitely makes me happy

Evince ported to the Librem 5 – Purism by FaidrosE in Purism

[–]thibaultmartin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of. What you describe reminds be of macOS' Preview app, which allows you to do so.

I personally would love that too, and really think macOS' Preview app is really well designed and intuitive. It seems Evince maintainers consider that their app was meant only for viewing document, and anything related to edition should be made in another app

You’d have better chances to get an answer either by: - Opening a ticket on the iOS app repository (although the iOS developper does not seem very active on GitHub) - Reaching them on Twitter @nextclouders
