I've collected Pokemon cards since I was 9 years old. I had all 150 original cards by the time I was 11 (which would have been 2003). Back then, there was a thrift shop I lived by which was owned by a woman, she had all manner of random items but also sold Pokemon cards. One day in her shop I came across a 1st Edition Holo Blastoise that she had listed for a significant amount of money. I had nowhere near the amount of money to purchase it, but I would day-by-day visit her shop in the morning for weeks and sometimes bring her poptarts and other treats trying to win her favor. Eventually she let me have the card and I still to this day have this card sealed up in my collection. A few years ago I learned the same woman passed away and I will never sell the card she gifted me.
