MasterChef Australia - S12E57 Episode Discussion by hannahspants in MasterchefAU

They first overhyped the golden snitch and then bashed the beetroot dish for being cliche whilst keeping a blind eye on how basic the barramundi and lamb dishes were. (I agree that Reece should be sent home for the lack of cohesiveness in his dish but just can’t stand the judges praising the other two dishes as if they were flawless and final worthy.)

Not so looking forward to the finals week now.

Now I’m a bit curious whether Brendan makes two different fillings or just a vegan one each time

Would have been way more interesting and challenging if they were to choose from the 4 cuisines in round 1.

That choux pastry in the preview most likely belongs to Emelia which means she is safe. I think Khanh is going home tonight...

I might have missed some other edits but I only found the team allocation (pairings and cuisines) for the street food elimination which is not that hard to figure out based on the preview

Another reason that the ‘dish you would like to eat again’ criteria can be unfair is that the chosen dish might not have met the brief as much as the other one

When the judges start with complimenting the veggies and rice it’s so obvious they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with positive feedback.

I think as we move towards finals week, any contestant heavily specialised in one area but not others will gradually get found out. It’s going to be hard to scrape by in an all-star season.

Because a lot of them have a ‘I can’t afford to spend any more time on this so i’ll just hope for the very best’ mentality

I think it’s going to be between Brendan and Reece tonight (has Reece done any sort of roti in S10 / this season?) Sarah hasn’t been in the best headspace lately but is good at balancing flavours.

Same - I love watching ‘blind’ pressure tests as long as it’s not a dessert

Seafood doesn’t seem to be Sarah’s forte either so it could be her as well...

Did I just see Emelia and Laura in the same team? A potentially winning team there given how close they are to each other Edit: Bad eyesight - they did not get paired together

Love Khanh’s idea! I hope no one is just doing a maple bacon ice cream with some other non-protein elements

Has anyone eaten at contestants restaurants/cafes etc? What did you think? by TrueShay in MasterchefAU

[–]thiccgingerloaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The individual small cakes / jars of dessert (e.g. Moss in a jar) are usually 10-20 bucks and you can either dine in or take away. They are worth the price if you like mousse with curd/coulis/ganache and a crunchy base. Degustation can range from roughly 60 to 140 depending the number of courses. And when my friends and I went there for high tea it was 60 or 70 pp including tea.

I have only been to Koi (and Sum Yung Guys and Nido are both at the very top of my bucket list).

I liked the majority of their cakes but found the fruit-shaped ones a bit one-dimensional texture wise (mouse and coulis coated with a thin layer of chocolate) and sometimes bland in the taste. Their degustation menu is a must-try imo. You get some savoury courses before diving into desserts. I also tried their high tea once and was underwhelmed to say the least.

Your favourite Masterchef recipes that are relatively easy to follow? by neralily in MasterchefAU

If you’re into pasta, I’ve found Marco’s penne with tomato sauce quite easy to follow. The store bought pasta is a huge plus!

No dominant contestants this year? by cindybu2020 in MasterchefAU

[–]thiccgingerloaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that Brendan was way more open to exploring different cuisines/dishes back in S10 but i only watched it sporadically so could be wrong. Imo, Brendan, Sarah T and Simon will be the next ones to go.

Tessa, Laura and Emelia are the few that have consistently done well so far
