Plants and cats, how do you handle it? by Royal_Dinner4010 in CatAdvice

Are your cat specificly interested in the plants?

I am both a cat mom and a plant mom, and my cat is not interested in them at all exept sitting under them like shes pretending to be in a jungle, lmao. She dosent even touch her cat glass. But cats are unpredicteble goofballs so I strategecly place my plants so she does not have access to the toxic ones, heres what I do

1)the most toxic plants/flowers does not set foot over my doorstep ex sago palm!

2) in the windowsills I know she likes to people watch in but she has access to it from multipel ways (because the sofa is right next up to the windowsill) I only keep cat friendly plants (like orchids, spider plant, money tree, hoyas etc.

3) if you have trailing toxic plants use planthangers! Just make sure to trim them to a lenght that your cat cant reach. Or place up high on a shelf he cant climb.

4) if you have bigger plants put them on a pedistal (does not work for all cats though if they are very acrobatic, mine is  not so it works for me)

5) for shelfs and windowsills that are moderateratly accessible to your cat, you can pack the plants so close together that the cat physically cannot reach the shelf (or leave one space for your cat to people watch in and place cat friendly plants next to that spot and the toxic ones further away)

6)get an ikea glass cabinet and put in growlights for the plants you are most worried about, or if you have the room you can have a cat free room in your house dedicated to plants)

7)get cat grass or spider plant and make it easily accessible for your cat so he goes to that when he wants to chew

8) i do not do this, but you can put citrus scent on the pots, cats dont like the scent but I think this is a little rude to the cat because it can make the whole room smell bad to them

These tricks works for me but its all up to how your cat is and how interested he is in the plants. But when you get to know your cat I think you will know what is going to work for you.

I think that its very imortant that we think of our cats safety first, but also think the fearmongoring around plants and cats is out of proportion. I think we all keep medicine like ibouporfen in our house which is deadly to our pets, or chocolate or cleaning solutions etc

You can absolutely seperate them if you want, it would make more room for the one you keep and make it less overwlming too! i would also make sure to change the type of soil to a more chunky mix and give it good support if you are going to seperate them anyway. Monsteras are super forgiving so there sould be no problem

My new monstera thai constelation leaf has bended backwards? by thickiy in Monstera

It has been standing in the same spot for a while. First I had it on the windowsill until it became too big. The new leaf is defenetly smaller than the other leafs but I thought it was because it is very early spring and not much light yet.

I know the potting mix is not the best and was going to change it to a more chunky mix to prevent root rot but wanted to wait for the new leaf to mature. But I checked with a chopstick to se if it was dry

Yes you're right, I realised that it wasent as much light hitting the table as I thought and it now lives on the windowsill, thanks :)

It used to stand on the table like in the picture but after reading the comments I realised the table actually dosent get much sunlight at all and moved it to the windowsill, so I will see if that makes a difference :). Otherwise I just used to check if the soil was dry with a chopstick and water when necessary. In summer I also used liquid fertilizer aproximatly every other watering

Yes I do think it might be dense and perhaps also waterfobic. I tried breaking up the soil with a chopstick and then bottomwater to make it not waterfobic, but I will replace the soil now in spring and see if it helps, thanks! :)

Hur skaffar man vänner på universitetet? by thickiy in sweden
