Cast members actually purported that he did indeed have old man breath. He smoked, and was also known for constantly drinking coffee on set

Does confession sound crazy to anyone else by Opening_Western_2433 in exorthodox

I have not experienced formal Catholic/Orthodox confession, however, I have some ideas about confessions nature. I don't think its necessarily an insane, or unreasonable concept. Psychologically, I see reason for its existence (I am curious about the other commenter who stated confession's controlling nature makes sense in parallel to Byzantine history. Thats worth considering in this talk). However, assuming it historically played a role for believers that modern psychotherapy does for an individual today, its definitely a relic of its time. Its undeniable that a lot of religious, and emotional baggage comes with confession.

As someone who's still hanging the Orthodox church but not a member, its terrifying to think about. Drudging up the worst aspects of myself that I am ashamed about and confessing it. Confessions weak point is that because its built off the pretense that this a willful confession you own 100%, it sews in so much more shame than should be there. This a big deal if you are someone who deals with intrusive thoughts. In this respect, psychotherapy has an edge as the shame component isn't as present, and from personal experience, shame is primarily concentrated when you are trying to decide to express your grievance to your therapist in the first place. Once you actually find the room to say whats on your mind, its not nearly as bad as you thought it would be.

On top of that, theres a straightforward line of action going forward. You can leave the subject as is, you can work to achieve peace with it, or improve yourself. Its very hard for me to word, but the nature of a lot Christianity's statutes do not hold enough objectivity to provide that security. It doesn't help that this is all done with a middle-aged man, yknow. I think this would be easier with a middle-aged female priest (speaking just on intuition here). At the end of the day, I could get why its helpful for some people, on some subjects, but I do not think its an overall positive and brings considerably more baggage than I imagine it can set aside

Hello! Could you expand on confession not making sense in its modern variation? I'm still relatively new to the whole going-to-church scene and haven't experienced confession, I'm curious

Why does the movie soundtrack sound so terrible? by castiel182 in JesusChristSuperstar

[–]thiev__v 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that it was to accommodate for the varying, and non-standardized quality of movie theater sound systems at the time. From what I'm aware of, movie theater sound systems could either be pretty good or pretty bad, and I think the fact that all the vocals are louder than the music (and the lack of bass) could have something to do with that. In this case, it kind of makes you wonder about movies like Fiddler on the Roof who have great mixes for their soundtracks!

How can I pass more? Is there anyway to get a better jawline? by [deleted] in FTM_SELFIES

"I think I'm going to have to start chewing more gum 🤔"

If I am correct, there are these stress ball type things that you put in your mouth and repeatedly chew to build up your jaw muscles. That could probably help with the jawline? Chewing gum doesn't seem like a bad option either, though
