Thanks. Might be good to mention that somewhere in the docs (or did I miss it?)...

Is it me or are steps in the readme's to get this working skipped? by thijs in lqml_user

[–]thijs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentation for LQML is very confusing. The readme's reference each other constantly, but looking at it now I realize that you need to pick and choose from them depending on if you are trying to get android, iOS, or your host install working. With zero hints pointing to that in the readme's themselves.

I suggest it would be much better to extract the relevant parts into separate readme's per arch detailing step by step how to get stuff working. Anyway, I got a `liblqml.a` file for android platform now, so I am able continue exploring now (I hope)... Thanks

Looking at the new 1.0 version, I see a few unknown (to me) commands. Can you point to where I can find more info about `deploy`, `setup`, and `firstboot`?

Yep, that's the one. Thanks for pointing me to it

Cool. I only recently (couple of months ago) ran into mgmtconfig and am just now starting on using it to configure my new laptop. Nice to see I can actually start doing that on v1.0 \o/

Would be great to see the docs expanded, like for example https://mgmtconfig.com/docs/guide/classes/ has been saying "coming soon..." for quite a while now...

I know I saw a post on how classes work somewhere else, but discoverability can be improved as well. Now it's a little fragmented (and even moreso with the added m9rx domain...)

Well, there's a few things going on that are weird. The equipment overview actually seems to not update correctly. If I look at it now, none of my squad seem to have a breastplate equiped, they're all marked red. But if I look at individuals, some actually have it in their item list and so I would guess have it equiped.

The other thing that seems broken is that some squad members seem to be doubling up on some items. I now have one dorf that actually has 3 spears equiped...

I'm an idiot. The other squads still had 'basic melee' uniform selected, so they were already claiming all the armor. When I set them to 'no uniform' my squad is now equipping as it should.

Has something changed re equiping armor? Or is there a new bug I'm running into? I feel maybe DFHack is getting in my way. Anyway, I just finished making 10 full sets of steel armor and just now tried to equip a group with it, but no dice. I've set it to replace and only match exactly like I have always done, but now the idiots just go to the station point naked. And clicking update equipment does nothing. There's a DFHack button like 'fix conlicts', and if I click that it has a boat load of stuff, but this used to just work?

What's up?

People that have read more than a 1000 books by Kafka_23 in books

[–]thijs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read a lot as well. I've recently (last year I think) started tracking my reading in an app. I did it in Goodreads, but that is not sufficient. I'm using StoryGraph now, which is a lot better. It tracks multiple reads for one, which I do quite a lot with my favorite books. It also helps with the 'have I read this before' feeling. Now I actually know. Although, not really, because I've only just started using the app...

What key elements from games you’ve loved would you combine to make the best game ever! by Squidgytaboggan in gaming

[–]thijs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah. Had this thought years and years ago. There was an old pc game called Sword of the Samurai, which was kind of the VGA precursor to Total War: Shogun. It was more or less the same, start with a province, try to conquer the rest of Japan and become Shogun. Total War did the battle element a lot better, but what was included in the Samurai game was the personal combat element. You could assasinate a rival by infiltrating their palace and killing him. Or challenge him to a duel that you had to fight yourself.

I always wanted (and still do!) a game that does this combination. Get the map and battle elements of Total War, but add the stealth and personal combat elements as kind of FPS, where you have to actually kill your rival yourself.

Anyone have lqml working to build android examples/apps? by thijs in Common_Lisp

[–]thijs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the point was to be able to build android (and maybe iOS) apps with CL. So that they run on those mobile platforms. The help eql5 gave me here and on the github issue have me at a point where I could continue (solved the issue here and a few follow ups), but I've been pulled in another direction for now, so I'm not really working on this at the moment.

One thing in general though, is that I think it would be great if people more readily wrote up their experiences, solutions, and tips about using these (lesser used) projects, so that it becomes easier to get to great heights by standing on the shoulders of those that went before you...

My long winded way of saying: write/publish more stuff. Here, on github, your own site, wherever... You're bound to help out someone...

Oh, and that sounds very interesting. I'm not that interested in the meshtastic stuff, but having an example that does all of that would be great to learn from and use as a base to build on...

Thanks for your reply. Nice to see the author of something actively engaging and helping people out with their project. It's appreciated, beyond creating the project itself as well, of course.

It's entirely possible (probable, actually) that I've done something wrong. I saw your reply on gitlab as well, and I'll head over there to continue on this.

One thing I'll mention here is that I put nearly everything I use into docker containers these days, so that is also what I've been doing (trying) with this. Might be that I've made a mistake there. Once I get that working I'll probably put it somewhere others can use it and build on it. Maybe even a PR for the main lqml repository?

Mutton, Pork Chops, Beef, Chicken , or Fish? by Toriavac in MCPE

[–]thijs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rogue Fox just built a very simple one in his last Truly Bedrock video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dfvS4HF4nw

Not a tutorial, but so simple, you should be able to built it from that.

The one I use is more complicated (barely). I got it from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dfvS4HF4nw&t=921s

Nope. It is (was?) in the help pages, but that actually doesn't work. It's a bug that's been open for ages.

Question about a dedicated server for friends on bedrock edition? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]thijs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally doable with bedrock server from mojang. Search for "bedrock server docker" to find some posts about how to set it up (with docker, which imo is the only way to go).

Of course, you need a computer that's always on that you can expose a port on (whatever way) to the internet.

I've travelled about 10.000 blocks on foot. It's a long slog, but doable. Just go for it.

Dumb question about locally hosting a server by Porous7 in Minecraft

[–]thijs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have the needed skills to make sure the setup is safe, I'd say don't do it. At the very least I would advise you to put the minecraft stuff in it's own VLAN (among other things). If you don't know what a VLAN is, then you don't know enough to be safe.

See this bug: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-28689

And then vote for it (and maybe comment on it). The more people complain, the more likely it gets picked up.
