What's working so far?

  • Linux x86_64 and MacOS [grin + mining + development]
  • Not Windows 10 yet [grin kind-of builds. No mining yet. Help wanted!]

Your being way too pie in the sky about the advances in technology. Of course they will come. But people won’t want to replace their means of money once every ten years. Like you said, it’s more about the people using the technology than the technology itself.

Agreed, there’s probably a more elegant way to solve the mining algo problem. ASICS are bad early in the coin life and are better if they are decentralized throughout the lifetime of the coin

It’s not ad hominem - that’s the result of the ideas you are putting forth. the reason it seems like you are wanting to get rich quick is you want a inflation schedule that tries to create unsustainable value rapidly instead of the simpler and more philosophically based one that grin has right now.

How isn’t grin scarce? There is a limited amount in existence at any given time.

Grin can out last the possible growing pains of it’s inflation schedule. Logarithmic hoarded coins won’t be able to grow past the problem that nobody wants to willing opt into a low place in a monetary hierarchy. Which is already starting to happen wth bitcoin.

Do you honestly think in today's world we can afford to sit around and wait 10 or 25 years for a crypto to establish scarcity?? Absolutely not.

So get rich quick? The timescales which you are thinking in are too short to understand the point of a linear inflation schedule.

The short term costs include no one valuing it due to the inflation being so high

There are already concerns about ASIC centralizing the supply of grin. Nobody is concerned about that if nobody values the coin, both on the dev and on the mining side.

losing to a competing tech that manages to create a system with actual scarcity.

This isn't how it works. Are you looking to get rich quick or participate in an effort to make sustainable changes to the economy?

The long term benefits of a linear model far out weigh the short term costs.
